Daniel, I rarely comment, but love your channel. That being said, you are too funny today saying “I don’t know if you can tell how excited I am”, or “I’m not sure my excitement comes through this video but…” You are cracking me up! Your excitement comes through loud and clear, and always has. You remind me of my dad, now he was much harder to read, but when he was getting ready for something of a pond build magnitude, the excitement just exuded through his pores. I’m so happy for you and praise God for blessing you with a true heart to maintain that which He originally built and commanded us to take care of rather than destroy. Which seems to be the modus operandi in the world anymore today. Thanks for the excitement and memories, now get back out there and do some more planning!❤😊

AWESOME, much needed video Daniel! Mike and I have had a really tough day, but this video lifted our moods up and gave us some much needed joy that we don't have around Christmas time since moving down here to Florida. Your enthusiasm is contagious with this pond and brings back great memories of clearing out the silt from my old pond back in the 70's and 80's.....the good old days. I think a nice dock would be great as would some clear kayaks to fish from, especially when the water is clean. Standing up on those paddle boards would be a fun challenge to fish from too! Ohhhhh...... all the things I'll never be able to do, but it would be so much fun to see you all enjoying it all! What about a dock/island in the center of the pond to paddle out to? I had just pointed out to Mike that wonderful, hollow tree for a great fish habitat when you pointed it out to us mere seconds later! That had me laughing for the first time in days. My imagination is going to keep on going wild, so I better stop this now. We can't wait for your next pond video! Try to get some sleep, but you may be too excited to sleep! With loads of love, prayers, and gentle hugs for y'all and your critters too. God bless y'all, Donna Gulyas in Florida. 🥰🤣🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍🧜♂🧜♀🚣🐟🦈🐳🐬🌳🌳🌳🏝⛳FORE!!

I read about someone who has an acre and 1/2 farm pond that got a lot of algae, duckweed and other weeds in it. Then he got ducks that don't fly and put on the pond and built them a floating duckhouse on the pond for shelter for them to keep them safe from predators and bad weather. He said that they did an amazing job of keeping the pond cleaner.

If your going to use the logs lay them across the ditch instead of in the ditch. Plus when they come in and layout the water line with a transit mark the water line with yellow or orange marking paint. 3 or 4 ft long lines parallel to the waters edge. Scatter these lines every 50 feet or so all the way around the pond. This will help in visualizing what your pond is actually going to look like. You might decide a little peninsula right there would be nice etc. I personally don't like islands in ponds but if you want on this would aid you in deciding where to put it. I love rock piles, stacked, not dumped. You can take two lg square rock spaced a little bit apart with a flat rock laid across them forming a tunnel. One good size square rock with a good size flat one leaned against it works also. stacks with a smaller rock on the bottom and a larger around flat rock sitting on top creates a overhang all the way around. Set long flat rocks on edge in trenches to help hold them up. Do parallel, circular, and random angles of them. Randomly dig shallow curving trenches and holes with the dirt pile laying right beside them. The rougher the bottom the better. Don't forget to create a nesting area. The Oklahoma wildlife department could help you on all of this stuff. Might even stock it for you. Some of the babies from your pond will be washing downstream.
@chipseiler1766Ай бұрын
I've been looking forward to this rebuild series. Love the artificial creek channel!!! That's what will make this different from every other pond I've seen on KZbin. Sounds like you've got the right plan for structure too. Don't forget. If you want trophy bass NOOOO catfish or Crappie. They compete for the same food and take up some of the weight that your pond will be able to sustain. You should also install one or two fountains to help increase your oxygen levels and help increase the amount of poundage that your pond can handle. Recipes for BIG bass! Running your electrical to the fountains before it fills with water is way better! The biggest mistake I made when building a pond many years ago was NOT pumping the water out when it rained as we were designing and taking the dirt out of it during the rebuilding process. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

I'm not sure who loves that pond more, you or Houston. One things for sure, you and him have made a lot of memories there together, just your memories from when you were growing up. And I can see Houston doing the same thing with his kids someday. Seems like if any of your children are going to follow in your footsteps, it would be him. He seems to love the land, nature and the animals as much as you do. Hopefully in the far distant future Houston will carry on the Homestead. ❤

We just recently built a pond too. I had a Missouri department of conservation fisheries agent out, he warned me about using certain types of trees for structures habitat. Some trees have tannins that could release toxins that could kill fish. Just something you should consider.
