पौंग बांध (महाराणा प्रताप)
हिमाचल प्रदेश के कांगड़ा जिले के शिवालिक पहाड़ियों के आर्द्र भूमि पर ब्यास नदी पर बाँध बनाकर एक जलाशय का निर्माण किया गया है जिसे महाराणा प्रताप सागर नाम दिया गया है। इसे पौंग जलाशय या पौंग बांध के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। यह बाँध 1975 में बनाया गया था। महाराणा प्रताप के सम्मान में नामित यह जलाशय या झील एक प्रसिद्ध वन्यजीव अभयारण्य है और रामसर सम्मेलन द्वारा भारत में घोषित 25 अंतरराष्ट्रीय आर्द्रभूमि साइटों में से एक है।जलाशय 24,529 हेक्टेयर (60,610 एकड़) के एक क्षेत्र तक फैला हुआ है, और झीलों का भाग 15,662 हेक्टेयर (38,700 एकड़) है।
पौंग जलाशय हिमाचल प्रदेश में हिमालय की तलहटी में सबसे महत्वपूर्ण मछली वाला जलाशय है। इस जलाशय में महासीर मछली अत्याधिकता मे पाई जाती है | नगरोटा सूरियां से ठीक सामने पौंग झील के बीच एक खूबसूरत टापू रैंसर है। यह आठ माह से अधिक समय तक चारों तरफ से पानी से घिरा रहता है। यहां खूबसूरत जंगल व एक रेस्ट हाउस है। यहां नाव से पहुंचने का अपना अलग ही मजा है। इसके लिए आपको नगरोटा सूरियां व धमेटा से वन्य प्राणी विंग हिमाचल प्रदेश की नाव कुछ रेंट पर उपलब्ध हो जाएगी।
Pong Dam (Maharana Pratap)
A reservoir has been constructed on the river Beas in the wet land of Shivalik hills of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, which has been named as Maharana Pratap Sagar. It is also known as Pong reservoir or Pong Dam.This dam was built in 1975 named in honor of Maharana Pratap, this reservoir or lake is a famous wildlife sanctuary and one of the 25 international wetland sites declared by Ramsar Sammel in India.The reservoir stretches to an area of 24,529 hectares (60,610 acres), and part of the lakes is 15,662 hectares (38,700 acres).Pong reservoir is the most important fish reservoir in the foothills of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh. In this reservoir, majestic fish is found in excess Nagrota Surian is a town in Nagrota Surian Mandal, Kangra District, in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Nagrota Surian is 45.2 km from the district headquarters Dharamshala. It is about 260 km from the state capital Shimla. Block Head office is also available in Nagrota surian. This town is located near the Pong Lake. The Pong Dam Reservoir is very much approachable from Nagrota Surian, which is the main attraction due to migratory birds during various seasons. This reservoir comes under the Ramsar Wetland sites and rancer a small island between pong dam, approachable by boat. It is the home of some local wild animals and has a pathway circling full island and offers great view of the dam.
How to Reach
By AirGaggal airport is the nearest airport from Pong-Dam, located at a distance of only 75.9km from Pong-Dam. This airport is connected to Delhi through frequent flights. Contact no.:01892-232374
By TrainThe nearest broad gauge railway station is Pathankot Cantt.(Chakki) at a distance of 70km from Pongdam and nearest narrow gauge railway station is Nandpur Bhatauli railway Station, Baryal Himachal Railway Station. Further, you can hire a taxi, or direct buses.
By RoadThe Pong dam is 466km from New Delhi, 170 kilometers from Chandigarh, 110 kilometers from Amritsar, 55 kilometers from Dharamshala.You can take HRTC volvo buses from Delhi ISBT to kangra and from Kangra you can take local buses to Pong dam or you can also hire taxi from taxi stand Kangra.

सर अभी कांगड़ा घाटी रेलवे लाइन बंद है। आप जालंधर से अगर आना चाहते हैं, तो होशियारपुर से तलवाड़ा और पोंग डैम के रास्ते जवाली और नगरोटा सूरिया आ सकते हैं। सर्दियों में यहां काफी संख्या में पक्षी भी आते हैं आप उन्हें भी देख सकते हैं। और अगर आप गर्मियों में आते हैं तो आप जवाली के समीप पानी में डूबे हुए मंदिर जब बाहर निकलते हैं उस नजारे को भी देख सकते हैं।

4000 में स्टीमर बोट आपको उपलब्ध हो जाएगी। इसमें 10 आदमी जा सकते हैं। ₹4000 पूरा किराया है। लेकिन आजकल जाने से पहले एक बार वहां की जानकारी जरूर ले ले। क्योंकि कुछ दिन से वहां बर्ड फ्लू के मामले आने के कारण। झील को पर्यटकों के लिए बंद किया जा रहा है।
