I did not read the book but I went first day first show , here is my review ponniyin selvan 1 was based on kalki's version but thr part 2 was mani sir's ps2. they showed how close were aditha and nandhini at the start of the story and about umai rani and sundara chola the jodis of the movies arunmozhi&vanathi and our kundavai and vandhiyathevan love scenes were short and crisp. if they took the movie according to kalki sir's version the movie would have been more hit as in sir's book our periya pazhuvetarayar(forgive my spelling mistakes) commits suicide due to guilty as he killed aditha by mistake due to aim issues with his weapon and the real birth of madhuranthakadevan says that he isn't a part of the royal family wasn't shown but the meeting of umai rani and sundara chola part was good enough and . could have done better to be called as a better blockbuster ... ❤️ it is 40% kalki' version and 60% mani sir's ponniyin selvan part 2

The actors have put a lot of effort in the making. Movie is very realistic. But it will be a great disappointment to the fans who have read the story in the book. The heart and soul of the the famous PONNIYIN SELVAN novel was the story, but the story has been simplified a lot and that kills all main elements. Movie is a bit lag. Climax fight secene was unnecessary. Instead they should have just stuck to the main story. People who haven't read the novel might like the movie. Lacks a bit of Mani Ratnam's touch. But surely it can be a 1 time watch movie for all the effort the team has put

Bro, there are so many defects bro. 1. Maniratnam had often been saying that his movie is being truthful to Kalki’s ponniyin selvan but the ending is such a perversion to the truth. Instead of making the real chola heir which is Senthan Amudhan as the emperor, he passes the throne to Madhurandhakan, who is an actual heir of Pandiyan. 2. I know it is a movie but are we supposed to digest the fact that the swords and machetes used are fake ones? The purportedly romantic scene between Vandiya devan and kunthavai, the way both of them handle the sword of a warrior as if it is made of cardboard is really funny. Anyway, which sister who is uncertain about his very own younger brother’s existence can bother to romance? 3. The pallava king, out of so sudden, charges raja raja chola for the demise of his brother. I didn’t quite notice who sowed such a thought in his mind! All in all, in my humble opinion, this is not an intellectual movie at all, after all.

As a fan of the book first, I loved the movie. All the changes made in the movie from the books have worked well in the second part. All the sets and scenes are well researched and visually awe-inspiring. Vera level emotion. Even in book I didn't feel so much for Aditya karikalan death but the acting ratchasan called Vikram made it possible in the movie
