Very glad to see Aishwarya getting so much love post PS 1-2. It’s not that she hasn’t been offered good roles before but as rightly pointed out the directors have often relied way too heavily on her beauty to bother paying attention to the characterisation. As much as I have loved Ash in all her films with Mani Ratnam and SLB, I think her best works are undoubtedly with Rituparno Ghosh. Raincoat was a masterpiece and I was left speechless by the time the film ended. She was FLAWLESS in that film. Chokher Bali was another film where she excelled. She was to do another film with Rituparno but sadly he passed away a few weeks before that film was to commence. And a very unpopular opinion - I think she was excellent in ADHM too, perhaps the only saving grace. The comment on Vikram and Aishwarya being the soul of the film was bang on. High time some director casts them in a mature love story with a happy ending. Brilliant actors, crackling chemistry.

True same points you have mentioned has been asked to Aishwarya in interviews and she sounds complacent in that she can only do good under the right directors otherwise she's a bad actress. It's sad that when she was part of raincoat, provoked or chokerbali it was just a phase and she never worked towards being consistent. Mani ratnam is saving grace at least he's working with actress despite age unlike some directors who just wanted the youngsters.

Indian audiences are so lucky! You get to watch pictures like Ponniyin Selvan on the big screen, as they are meant to be experienced. Having rewatched the first one (via projector at home) on the biggest screen I could find, I am genuinely happy that Mani Ratnam made this happen despite the flaws. I would compare this adaptation to the Dune films, (although the budgets VASTLY differ) Mani sir, Gulzaar Saab(am I spelling it right?) and AR Rahman all understood the assignment and just swung for it. Just like Denis Villeneuve and his team, they were tasked with a herculean task and I think (at least for PS1) they pulled it off, I hope this gives producers enough reasons for them to invest in a Poonyin Selvan miniseries or really any other period drama set in ancient India. Congrats to the team! Can't wait to catch this on streaming ( :( no releases in Ethiopia)!

The Pazhavettai bros didnt switch sides, Nandini had convinced them to rebel against the Princes "for the good of the people" by making it seem like both wanted the throne for themselves, its why Parthibendran also instantly believes Vandiyathevan killed off Karikalan on Aruls orders. When they find out she was with the enemy the whole time they try and do everything they can to help and repent. They didn't want the throne for themselves and they would never have been on board with using the enemies of the kingdom, Nandini and the Pandyas used them exactly to help pit the remaining chieftains against the crown and used Maduranthakan (who actually had a legit claim to the throne - its why Rajarajan stepping aside means even more, he let himself get skipped in the line of succession to restore it and then becomes King with a clean slate while also completely avoiding the civil war entirely)

FYI Its Aditha and not Aditya. Surprised that you folks said that you saw the Tamil version and still didnt get this
@lalitharavindran Жыл бұрын
Best to see the PS films in Tamil with English subtitles. Somehow the Hindi version didn’t match the Tamil original.

Really liking the way Anmol review films

I love watching these movies in the original language they are made. I agree the dubbed version doesn’t have the impact.

However much one likes the discussion on PS- 2 between Anupama and Anmol, one can't help but wish that they got Aditha Karikalan's name right. For God's sake, he is Aditha and not Aditya!

Thanks for the clarification. After posting I did wonder if that could have been the case. Anupama had mentioned that she had seen the Tamil version.

Citadel is too gory so far and the twists are too convenient. Yes. Given its a spy thriller need to see more cerebral stuff there.

No need to mention any other films except for Ponniyan Selvan 2, those other 2 are just average movies. Ponniyin Selvan rooted and rich in history that is needed in todays time and Citadel the same old tired hollywood formulaic film. Looking at films like malayalam film Romancham and tamil films like Vidhuthalai and PS 2, its safe to say that hollywood is having bad luck with formulaic films and India is doing great with these kinds of films.

This Anupama did not mention Rani Mukerji who delivered a Box Office Success recently... I want to ask her, Would any one have come to watch Ash if she was the solo face of PS1/2?

Pony and Selvan because my speakers went kaput and only subtitles could guide me through

We writers have so many stories but Hindi cinema or ott doesn't even entertain them or give an opportunity. How will it progress?

I like PS 2 movie 👍👌

The thing which was disappointing about the Ponniyin Selvan movies was because people outside Tamil Nadu have no idea about the books and we have a reason for why we should root for the cholas. We weren't really invested in the characters and because of that became boring. PS-2 was better but it still isn't amazing
@geetadhumane5793 Жыл бұрын
Why we should root for the Cholas? Them being Indian kings isn't enough for u? Or rather the story being abt them

People also need to pay interest to writers in Hindi audiences and then probably the industry will too. Cool video.
