Ponta do Garajau - Ilha da Madeira

A Ponta do Garajau é um promontório claro que se destaca das falésias.
Faz o extremo leste da baía do Funchal.
É uma grande combinação de atracções que agradará a muitos visitantes:
Em primeiro lugar, a estátua de 14 metros do Cristo Rei virada para o oceano (não é uma cópia da estátua do Brasil, esta foi inaugurada antes!)
Em segundo lugar, uma escadaria leva-o até ao fim do promontório para desfrutar de belas vistas
Em terceiro lugar, existe um dos 7 teleféricos da ilha
Em quarto lugar, pode desfrutar de uma praia tranquila com águas límpidas e uma reserva marinha.
Sobre o nome - Pássaro Garajau
O nome Garajau significa “aves marinhas” no dialeto madeirense.
Na Ponta do Garajau, pode admirar muitos deles, especialmente ao anoitecer. A mais comum é a cagarra. Faz muito barulho à noite.
A zona é também habitada por painhos da Madeira e andorinhões da planície.
Note que é fácil escrever Ponta de Garajau. Mas é “do Garajau”.

It forms the eastern end of the bay of Funchal.

About the name - Pássaro Terajau
The name Garajau means “seabirds” in the Madeiran dialect.
At Ponta do Garajau, you can admire many of them, especially at dusk. The most common is the shearwater. It makes a lot of noise at night.
The area is also inhabited by Madeira storm petrels and plain swifts.
Note that it is easy to write Ponta de Garajau. But it’s “from Garajau”.
