In my opinion, I don't think Discord was ever evil, it says that he RULED equestria before the 2 sisters, and i think the ponies were fine with that. I mean, think about it. Remember the strange behavior everpony had, other then the mane 6 when discord arrived, they didn't seem unhappy, just Pinkie pie like, I think things are more fun with disc around.

I don't think he was evil compared to the other antagonists we got in the show. Just a trickster that loved to mess with ponies and didn't know when to stop or really cared how it effected others.

Those comments that are like "Discord was never evil", are erasing the entire point of his character. He is _supposed_ to be bad, evil, to show how even the darkest of souls can be reformed.

I’ve always thought of Discord as a force of nature no different than a hurricane: yes there’s pure chaos and people get hurt but there’s never any malice intended, it just happens. Now sure Discord is a flesh and blood creature with amazing powers and he has free will, so if he causes chaos it’s because he _wants_ to. Not because of any (true) malice, but simply because he thinks it would be fun.
