Story: This girl has a wild imagination. (She's only young, so of course she would) She pictures the piñata as a living thing, and becomes friends with it. Her friends hit the piñata and break it. (Since she thinks of it as a living pony, she pictures blood coming out of the piñata instead of candy) She tastes the 'insides of the pony' and realizes it tastes like candy. She also then realizes that the pony is actually not living. It's just a piñata. Since she realizes that the pony wasn't living this whole time, and that everything was a lie, she thinks that her friends aren't real either, and that they are just piñatas too.

My interpretation of the story: A little girl, at her birthday gets as a present a talking pony. She and the pony become instanty friends and start fooling around, she even introduces him to her doll. Soon we start realising that this is a birthday party. The girl though doesnt really wanna play with the other children, who arent really her friends, she just wants to play with the pony. This makes me understand that she must be a lonely kid, since her only friends are the pony and the doll. At a moment when she s not looking the other kids start beating (I understand this as "bullying") the pony, and finally they tear it into two pieces. Pony's insides spread out and the kids start eating them. One kid even offers a limb(?) to our protagonist who tries it and realises that it is candy. When she looks around again she realises the everyone is like that, and that she has to beat them in order to get that delicious candy. So the explanation I came up with is the following: In our world people "eat" (not literally-duh) other people in order to survive. When people are making fun of another person and you are outside of it then it seems to you like they are killing him. However, the moment you start bullying him and making fun of him too (eat the candy), you realise its all about that: You should beat others before they beat you. Then you can be sure about one thing: Vengeance (and candy) is sweet! That from me, sorry about my typing/grammar mistakes, I did the best I could.

MY INTERPRETATION This girl has a wild imagination. Exactly like Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes. So she talks to her toys. Many toddlers do that. And they talk back. So nearing her birthday, she sees a pinata. And, looking like a huge toy, she automatically befriends it. At the party, all she sees are kids murdering her friend, so obviously she starts to flip out. But just because she soon came to realize her friend wasn't real, it doesn't mean she lost her crazy imagination. So, she saw the kids as pinatas, just to hold on to that strange dream land she lives in. And since she just saw everyone else hitting the pinata, she decides she might as well join in on the fun.
