Do you have a video of a poodle puppies first grooming? I will be getting our puppy in a week and want to make sure we start out right. I'm curious how long and how much you do to start and I had no idea you needed to use longer blades until their skin "toughens" is this true? When would you start getting between the toes? Also could your recommend a brush and clipper that would be good to start with a puppy. Some of the slicker brushes look and feel very harsh. Any advise would be great or a video of a younger puppy would be amazing

As a long time groomer...I offer up a word of advice. The face should be the last thing you clip...not the first.

I have a poodle puppy who isn't crazy about the clippers either. He is getting so much better now. I trim him myself. I trim him weekly whether he needs it or not just to give him the experience of holding still and of course the clippers. I'm not a groomer. I give my puppy treats when he's standing still. It just takes a lot of time and patience. I recommend getting some clippers and even if you don't clip him just hold it to his face often and give him lots of love and treats when he holds still. You can probably find some cheap clippers at Walmart or on Amazon.

Poodles aren't like most dogs and require constant grooming. It's a puppy and not familiar with the trimmer yet

It's cruelty to neglect the attention that a dog coat needs. Many breeds will form matted hair when left unattended.

Poodles literally need to be groomed regularly in order for their coats not to mat. Unless of course you want a poodle with the longest hair ever that can't see that you have to brush daily for hours because there will be so many matts from day to day activities. Poodles have hair like us, that constantly grows and constantly tangles. Therefore, they need to be groomed. You can consider it cruelty all you want with dogs with fur and not hair but this..it's necessary.

if you dont trip a poodle and many of the poodle crosses, their hair, which is a grade of wool actually, will mat up to the point that the weight will actually damage the skin and all types of debries will become entangled within. not to mention the over heating of the animal in the summer months. i have seen poodles that the owners didn't care enough to trim their dogs and the poor thing's skin tore from the mats of hair. I know you probally are just concerned about the animal's welfare, but honestly it would be crueity not to trim them.
