Having installed liners now for 35 years this was a fun watch. I can see these guys are old school, look like a decent job but there's some new tools out that give better suction than a shop vac that are purpose built for the job. I suppose it gets the job done, way back when we used shop vacs too and burned out about 3 of them every season. These guys should invest in a "slop shove" and save their backs bending over to get out the last bit of gunk with a dustpan. One last thing I've never done is wear my sneakers in the pool, I always take them off and go socks or feet only... what if a pebble or something sharp were caught in your shoe tread which could poke the liner? Maybe they checked but not worth the chance for me. Anyways, nicely done video although a word to anyone watching that wants to try themselves, this is a very simple rectangle with no steps or anything difficult, there are MANY obstacles that can be run into doing such a job yourself, water in the ground, sand bottoms, all sorts of fittings... just a thought.

my pool has been leaking summer 2017 but stopped i think because the ground water went pressure up just covered it and i noticed the cover was dropping..the liner is only 3 years old i think it may be leaking around the steps. But i took the solid cover off and installed the safety cover that lets the dirty water go in however it will stop the leaves from going in till i get to it in the spring of 2018. just a good back up but if you use a safety cover your pool will be green and take longer to clean!

I've worked on swimming pools since 1973 and have never put a liner in as sloppy as these guys. The bottom should have been scrubbed and washed down to eliminate the mold and algae that I saw on the video. The chance for stains bleeding through the liner is a real problem with liners nowadays, thanks to the liner manufacturers changing the chemical make up of the liner material. The pool would of looked a lot better if they had painted the coping while the liner was out. And any real pro would have blown the deck off before installing the liner to keep the debris from getting under the liner during installation. On a scale of 1to 10 , I give these guys a 3, maybe 4. Installers like this are why I don't have to look for work, work looks for me.

Yup I agree. Didn't look like they replaced the skimmer gasket either. Wearing shoes on liner. Didn't spray down floor or walls/track. Unless those parts were left out.
@christopherstebbins74425 жыл бұрын
It would've been a lot better if they ordered it to fit instead of trying to avoid wrinkles and ordering it too small then stretching it in, or bought a shovel and shop vac to empty the water in the hopper that the pump wouldn't pick up, or bought a pool liner vac (the day we attempted to scrub a black stain that used to be a shop vac off of concrete I knew to find a better product) or ordered the liner from Tara Mfg, or put a vermiculite (poolcrete) bottom in it,or used wall foam, or cut and folded the old liner so it fits on the truck when the job is finished, or didnt drag the liner across the floor- get his ass to help you carry it! And Take that stupid valve off the hose and keep it off the liner! Or used an actual skimmer gasket instead of duct tape! Or if you had two skimmers and more than 2 returns (hayward 1408 fittings) when the pool was originally installed you wouldn't have had the issue with leaves to begin with. But I'll bet the WORLD my paycheck to your dollar that the original liner wasn't 26 years old- bullshit!

Good job...One observation, No stairs in pool...
@guest450135 жыл бұрын
I would have foamed the walls, lots of rust. Scrape paint and foam. Shop vac the last of the old water out. Filling from shallow allows water to puddle and heat somewhat. I never lay hose on liner, if it starts wiggling back and forth with metal on vinyl,,, not good. Great job though.
@crystalpools67614 жыл бұрын
46 yrs and still waiting to see rust put a hole in a liner...then again, soft foam behind liners w/ toenails, brushes, toys...holes galore!
Not a bad job and the video quality was good. Three observations: I would have used the shop vac (without a filter in it) to vac out the last few gallons of muck and algae. I did notice that at 17:20, the liner was out of the bead for about 3 feet on the left side of the pool. As soon as the liner vacs start pull the wrinkles out, I make it a point to scan the liner bead all around to make sure it is set in the coping. It can be real hard to get back into the coping after the pool is filled.I would have replaced the 1085 skimmer gaskets.Other than that, nice job.

Why was the pool fill started from the shallow end? The first hose was long enough to reach the deep end.
@MrWHS677 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis, In retrospect I would only guess that it was more dramatic watching the water flow downward from the shallow end to the deep end,...thus creating a water fall effect. Bill

@@sharkson7725 sure it is. Anyone with experience please do tell!
@captain_redpill89837 жыл бұрын
You are really killing your profits doing it this way. From my experience on doing hundreds of liner replacements, I would like to share some tips to speed up the process allowing you to capitalize as much as possible. Drop a sump pump in the pool a couple of days in advance. My customers keep an eye on it and call me if the pump shuts off but most of the time that isn't a problem. I also toss about six to eight pounds of shock in the pool when I drop the pump in, this way it isn't so nasty when I come back to do the replacment. The small cost of the shock is offset by the amount of labor I save. When you go to do the replacment the pool will be almost completely empty. This is when you dredge. Everything is contained to a small area and takes about an hour to dredge rather than blindly trying to dredge 20,000+ gallons of swamp soup. While one man is dredging I have two others removing the old liner and fittings. After everything is cleaned out we rinse the bottom down to the hopper and shop vac the remainder out. Next we hang a membrane (wall foam) on the wall to protect the liner and patch the bottom. On most jobs we have water going in the pool by lunchtime.

There can be problems with your approach. First, not all towns allow highly chlorinated/chemical treated water to be pumped into storm drains as some drain into waterways.. 2nd. Draining the pool slowly can allow the floor to dry out (vermiculite and sand cements). Also allows any water table to build up under the liner while pool is draining slowly causing floor repair. I have a 3" trash pump that will drain a 16x32 in hr. By the time it is drained almost all the liner has been removed, gaskets replaced, steps and shallow end foamed. Spray the floor and agitate water to get debris suspended to be pumped out. Installs take 2-3 hrs with 2 guys. For the record I'm Not saying anyone is better than the other but your method won't apply to all areas. We do have places where we do have to drain slowly with small pump to avoid water draining issues. I have dropped small pumps off days prior if nice clean pool and If I know it's a hard bottom.
