They do not strike they just sort of casually latch onto you and chew a little. I spent time in the early 90’s helping Richard Hoyer with field research, learned a lot from that excellent man.

i grew up in oregon, on the temperate rainforest side of the cascades, and saw a couple of rubber boas while growing up! they really are incredible snakes.

I use to go up into the southern mountains in Montana and catch these as a kid. Very friendly snakes. Not one to keep in captivity, but they would be happy to wrap around your wrist and just hang out there all day.

I had no idea that the Rubber snake or poop snake existed! It's a cute little guy too, and looks like their skin is too big for them. I also like the fact that it's so chill when you pick it up. It's be a nice snake to have as a pet. But, for beauty I think the gopher snake is by far the winner, the markings on them are insanely beautiful! I also like the wandering Garter snake too, I've never seen one with spots , the only grater snakes I see in my neck of the woods are the ones with yellow and red stripes down the length of their bodies.

Very cool that ur in oregon! I was in the desert here earlier this summer and saw some scorpions, camel spiders, and gopher snakes. Wish we had seen a rubber boa though!

i had a jersulem cricket get into my parents' garage while i was visiting once, lost track of it, and then found it again because it started thwacking itself against the floor. apparently it thought there were chick crickets in the garage that was also my first time seeing a live one in person (i'd seen ONE before, dead and encased in a plastic bubble in a museum) and it was very surprising to me how thicc they are. i ended sweeping him back out onto the street with a broom. hope he found some of those chick crickets, idk

I live up in the okanagan valley of British Columbia Canada, and just did my yearly round of Northern Scorpion hunting. It was a rainy day sitting at about 10 degrees celsius and still was able to find scorpions out at night though very sluggish. They tend to gravitate towards clay banks that are south facing in this region. There are actually a few species of solifugid up here as well, though they are a lot more uncommon

These guys are illegal to keep where I live, but I just set up areas for them to live outside on my property. They get a spot to congregate and breed, while helping me control the rodents. Win-win. They're awesome, and super tame even though they're wild.

In 2017 along Black Canyon rd where it crosses HWY 84 in Oregon, at dusk, I witnessed a emergence of some kind of large crickets. It had been a very hot 100f+ July day. The highway, underpass and flat rocky area all around had a moving carpet of 2" long meaty blackish insects that looked like Jerusalem crickets only about 2-3x larger and with startling contrasting eye color (don't remember what color). The more that were run over the more that crawled onto the road attracted to the carnage. I really wouldn't have wanted to pass out on the ground there. I've tried looking these up on google but only found images of pale straw-colored ones that hatch out in Utah. These appeared different, namely for their creepy-cartoonish faces and dark color. I read the Utah ones tend to do this after a particular hot day every year or few years and will eat crops there. There wasn't much but short weeds and wild grass where these were at. I'd love to see you do a video about them someday and explain what exactly they are.

I had a job in Abilene, and we couldn't set a box down for more than a few nights and they would be 5 to 10 of them all different sizes.

Thanks for another cool video. I don’t think I’ve ever caught a garter snake that didn’t release musk. Maybe you could tell me: I live in Emery County in Utah. Do you know what species of camel spider lives here? I’ve been fortunate to find a few actually inside my apartment-haven’t tried looking outside. I tried to identify them, but could only narrow it down to a couple of genera with the photos I got. It’s been a while, but I believe it’s a species that has no ‘hairs’ on the legs and double claws. Only 1 of the 5 or so I’ve found was much over an inch long.

It is possible that a few species can be found in that county, but yours are very likely in the genus Eremobates. I do not think I can narrow it down further than that unfortunately.

Arkansas vegetable gardeners talk about a rubber boa but I don't think it's the same as yours. They say when you encounter a rubber boa in your garden if you try to chop it with your hoe the hoe will merely bounce off the snake as if it war a car radiator hose. I don't know what they were talking about and it may only be a legend. But in Arkansas it is a struggle to keep your feet away from cottonmouths, copperheads, and gentle 6' long blacksnakes. I moved from Arkansas to Israel for a year and when I would walk to my job in my turkey house a 6' long blacksnake would come out of the bushes and slither along beside me for some ways every morning for about a month. We were fellow commuters going to our job together. A snake can smile by lifting its head so the upturned corner of its mouth shows. We were normally about 3' apart but since blacksnakes are absolutely not harmful I had no fear whatsoever. 10 years later in Dallas I was looking at a book on Israeli wildlife: Israel doesn't have 6' long blacksnakes. My friend was a cobra.
