I really like how the MC isn't a super-powered boss from the first episode. He gradually increases his abilities and encounters real hardship. THAT is how you write compelling, heroic characters. I for one am tired of the clueless OP characters who have to "hide" their power from arrogant, unappreciative party members.

I completely agree with you, that storyline is so overdone. The only two series that comes to mind that does the overpower thing well, one punch man and cautious hero. However, I'm not sure if I like this character in particular personality-wise, he is normal, yes. But not very entertaining to watch, very incompetent, naive, too eager. The only reason why he haven't died is cuz of plot armor, and the elf... He doesn't even bother training with the weapons before going in dungeon. Training is for losers, I guess?

Kind of makes sense if you think about it - elves in this universe are immortal - what does the concept of age mean to a race that doesn’t - she is looking for traits which mc has and she has not been seductive at all. @@Dinoslay I have to be honest I disagree - you are applying real world logic to a fantasy setting - she has not ones brought up sex. She advised she wants him as her husband and yes ultimately procreation would be involved, but by your logic what was to stop her from simply making him feel he owed her and using him if that’s what she wanted. She is a genuinely good person who simply sees matters of age differently and likely intends to wait until he is old enough to be a proper husband but given the differences in this life spans intends to let him know where she stands early. That being said if she was a human with a normal 50 - 100 year life span - I would agree with you - as it does still feel like grooming regardless of her intentions.

@@lazerith84 Her species being unable to breed amongst members of their own kind is a biological hindrance and that necessitating involvement from other species be itself is a red flag. Like already said, I don’t care about her being immortal if it still means domesticating a young and vulnerable male into early husbandhood with good promises. It’s much more about him than her. So I very much doubt Stella’s “purity” and genuineness when it comes to her working for her personal gain so I guess the author’s intent to win me over backfired. The character should have waited until the boy is way older before proposing to make her case less awkward to more vigilant readers. So yes, even when this is fantasy it does give off grooming vibes which is the awkward part. To be completely direct, I guess that at the end of the day this kind of writing simply isn’t meant to be all that deep nor challenging to readers such as myself and is instead meant to be taken at face value by a completely different target demographic altogether. An individuals life span greatly effects everything they do. Most dogs don’t live 20 years be no one complains when a female dog goes into her first heat cycle at 9 months - or sooner that’s just biology. Life spans matter - they effect they way people do everything.

All of the grooming commentary in the comments is pretty funny. It's like no one can see past their own modern point of view. First, let's keep in mind that waiting until at least 18 to marry is an extremely modern idea, which hasn't existed for most of human history anyway. Second, this idea the elf is grooming the human to steal his future is pretty rich, as without the elf's help, the boy didn't have a future. It's debatable as to whether the elf's actions actually amount to grooming at all in any context, but the thing is, the boy was dead without her, like multiple times over. Even after she gave him a leg up, no strings attached, he still needed her direct intervention to survive. Like the elf is offering the boy a real life, but everyone thinks it's better he die in a gutter verses doing anything that might possibly look like grooming if you squint hard. Like marrying a top ranked immortal adventure, who obviously has a sense of compassion, is winning the lottery for this kid. There is no better future he could hope for.

as much as I agree, I've come to learn that saying any of this out loud just makes you seem sus, so word to the wise, even if it's fine to write a story like this it's also fine to be disgusted by the elements by applying modern sensibilities. Feeling the need to defend the story seems sus because it's like you're justifying the objectionable shite rather than the story which contains it. It's objectively grooming just like every isekai childhood friend romance is also objectively grooming. Can you make a cute or heartwarming relationship that started out as groomed? I mean yeah, but you have to overlook the weird grooming aspect. This is from an isekai writer that is writing their protag to struggle with this morally due to the 'grooming' being entirely unintentional - failing to realize that when they set out the traits of a 'good man' that their childhood friend should look for that they were simultaneously building their own self improvement goals - turning the successful character development into a crisis of sorts, realizing they sent all kinds of signals they didn't mean to and that keeping the 'moral distance' might turn out to be just as harmful at that point as any other course of action.

The only reason people keep throwing "grooming" around is because it's the hot button term that lets them virtue signal that they support the current thing, not because it actually describes the particulars of what happened in the story. On a side note, it's unfortunate, you basically ignored all the points that I made, which, as far as I'm concerned, supersede all other considerations. Was that because you didn't think you could speak directly to them? So just ignore the foundational points, and jump right to the 52nd floor? Buildings don't stand without a foundation you know.

Because plot. They didn’t have to take him in for long anyway, all they’d have needed to do was to offer him a job, really.
