This was a very beautiful story. This basically tells a little part of what is going on in America today. The rich are so busy making more that they don’t know how poor people are trying so hard to make things better for themselves. This story tells about how if people would take the time to open their minds and share more of themselves and try to understand how in helping each other more we can bring about change in our communities and know our families, if only we can experience different sides of the road. What I mean is like in this story the little boy that saved the rich man’s daughter, his effort to save the little girl without wanting much was probably a very small act of kindness in his community where he was growing up and playing with his friends and family. The rich man had never experienced what he was learning from the little boy about unconditional love of community. The rich man had not even realized how much distance he was making from his own daughter until the fire happened. The fire made him realize how he might feel had he lost his daughter. All of the riches he was trying to build for her would be lost if she had died in the fire. The rich man’s main goal was to make money and that’s all he knew how to do. He didn’t know how to live and love his own daughter the right way. He was focusing on the wrong thing in his life. It’s okay to have riches, dreams and goals but, at what cost. There has to be a balance in life and a balance in everything in life. I believe that all of us were made to help each other and to help each other to grow to have a better life and sharing our experiences, knowledge and love. In order to receive love you must learn how to love. This story reminds me of something I learned in church. It goes something like this : “What profits a man to gain the the world and loose his soul”. What I mean is this, why work so hard to gain money at the expense of possibly loosing you daughter and making your daughter become a stranger to you in your own house. This man got a second chance in life to make up for not paying enough attention to his daughter when she really needed him in the her youth. Many of us fathers and mothers at times are working to hard trying to make ends meet that we run the risk of becoming strangers to our children. We must find balance in our lives and spend a reasonable amount of time to teach our children about love, responsibility, dignity, respect, education, sharing, caring, and a sense of community and just learning who we are as human beings. If more people would learn how to help each other more this would be a be a better world. This story made me reflect on a few things I need to get a better understanding of what I could do to better spend some of my time on. It gave me some moments of reflection that I need to change. I hope this story effectively makes more people have moments of reflect and self improvement. Over all this was a great but, true story which happens in a lot of our lives. The sad thing is that a lot of people are living like this story and don’t even realize the impact of their behaviors until in some cases things get out of control or its to late to correct long on going behaviors. The beautiful thing about this story is that if some people wake up like the rich man did, and got a second chance. He was able to change his behavior and build on his relationship with his daughter and helped build something better for a community and got a better reward and greater sense of purpose for his life. I love stories like this one.
