I love this show :) makes me sad that it’s not clear they’re gonna get a second season. The animation and voice acting is soooo good. Spoilerish: Also the story Lemon told was about how she met him in middle school and wanted to go to the same high school, but she didn’t have the grades. He helped her study and she made it.

Pretty much all the locations in this anime are real places, and I've actually been to the roadside station that had what you called a kabob (the station looks exactly like it shows in the anime). Gohei-mochi is mochi rice on a tongue-depressor-like stick dipped in a miso-based sauce and cooked over an open flame. They're rice, not meat, but they're still very savory and tasty. They're a specialty of that part of Japan.
