I've learnt more from Crash Course than I'd have ever learnt from college !
@Isaiah_McIntosh5 жыл бұрын
that means you were an unmotivated student...At least you could make use of the library to read more than you could learn from crash course even if every teacher you have is horrible.
@screaminggecko76605 жыл бұрын
@@Isaiah_McIntosh College is not it's library. It's it's courses. If you have to learn from the library you aren't learning from the college. You are learning from the library
@Isaiah_McIntosh5 жыл бұрын
@@screaminggecko7660 I would argue college is the classroom, the lecturers, the syllabuses, the "peer debates", the libraries. There are books that are very difficult or impossible to gain access to as a layman, at least in my country if you are not associated with a college or a similar institution. Colleges are in theory a hub of knowledge, the classes themselves are one part, the library is merely another. Crash course is pretty surface level so if you learnt more from crash course than years of college it seems like you didn't effectively use all of the aspects of college. I don't know his circumstances though, maybe my view is too narrow.

I think a refreshing take on either position is noting that you have the capacity to learn restlessly, and radically change yourself mid-process. Don't underestimate this.

Theater of The Opressed sounds like Social Justice D&D! The actors play NPCs, the audience is the PCs and the joker is the DM.

I'll admit, most of the theater movements that have been covered in this series really haven't interested me all that much. However, the idea of forum theater has definitely piqued my interest. It seems like such an enlivening concept.

Hey Crash Course I was wondering if you guys could maybe start a series on music theory. It would be nice to have for musicians wanting to improve their work. It could cover topics such as chord progression, scales, Minor/Major...etc. If you read this comment please consider, and thanks for taking the time to read it. Keep up the good work.

I’m confused, so poor theatre is theatre without text, costumes, lighting effects, sets, props, and music, but the play of acropolis has music, costumes, sets and special effects?
@Cyssane5 жыл бұрын
That confused me as well. I'm assuming that the Akropolis was from earlier on in the playwright's career, when he was still using props and costumes. But I'm just guessing.
@HDimagination5 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, it's more of an acknowledgement that theatre doesn't need those things. In the words of Peter Brook, who popularised many of Grotowski's techniques and theories: 'I can take any empty space and call it a bare stage. A man walks across this empty space whilst someone else is watching him, and this is all that is needed for an act of theatre to be engaged' Poor theatre starts with the actor, and empowers people without access to dedicated spaces, expensive props, costumes and makeup to remember what is the most important foundation of Theatre; the actors and their performances. If you've ever been to a modern 'Black Box' workshop theatre where all the actors just wear stage blacks, with minimal costume, then you are witnessing Grotowski's influence.

I'm looking at this at 7:00, and... they HAVE a set, they HAVE props, they HAVE costumes, they HAVE music, and most importantly, the have a script of some sort, so they HAVE a text. So all these things he "removed" from theater weren't removed at all. Is "Poor Theater" anything more than a lie then?

He's talking about various forms of theatre over these videos. These styles were never mainstream but are important to the evolution of theatre. The wonderful thing about theatre is that there are so many ways to do it. I feel confident that there is a style out there that will work for you.
