Poornima (Sushma) Shreshtha on S. D. Burman (Rev I)

Poornima (Sushma) Shreshtha fondly reminiscences how Burman Dada tried to help her by giving her singing assignments, after her father (46) died suddenly when she was only 11. Dada also asked son Pancham to make her sing in his films where he was the music director. Both Dada and Pancham literally forced Raj Kapoor, to create a scene in his film 'Dharam Karam' with music by Pancham, to give her a singing assignment. Poornima remembers fondly how Dada used to feed her rosogollas, every time she met him.

@@lalwanimoti I am Hindi film music..old music of course... which I inherited from my late father...my favorites are Shankar jaikishan..SD Burman...and the rest follow... very pleased to know that still people like you are there to unearth the old triva of Hindi film music....

@@605sunflower There's a difference between SD Burman and the rest in every way. As you have taken two names, I'll narrate to you an anecdote. For Guide (1965), S. D. Burman was approached by some agent to pay money if he wanted the award. Dada was shocked to know that award can be bought, and drove the person/s out. Finally award went to Suraj which had music by Shankar Jaikishan. Please answer a question. Do remember songs of Suraj? Are they better than Guide songs? Please see my interviews, 'Waheeda Rehman on SD Burman', and Anitaa Padhye on SD Burman. I don't remember Part Nos. In one of them both talk about Guide Music Award. Now tell me what do you think?

@@lalwanimoti sir..I fully agree with you...my love for SJ is not blind...I even feel that they did not deserve awards for "Beiman" and "Pehchan"... even their close friend...Pran did not favour them during this period.... these things apart I love their music during 50's and up to early 60s... after this.their music became very loud and lost the melody..Guide will always be a special musical treat...

@@605sunflower You have good knowledge about our film industry. One can make many comparisons. SD Burman continued to compose soulful music with, Lata or no Lata (1958 to (1963) Pancham or no Pancham (1971 onwards when SD removed the entire team of arrangers, musicians and Pancham and arranged his own song, Kishore or no Kishore (1958 to 1965), Rafi or no Rafi (pre Pyaasa and post Guide). He was in demand till his last film.
