Batman Begins has a way better looking Gotham as well. It's all dark and, yknow, gothic looking. It feels bigger and more imposing. The final fight on the train is a perfect example of this. Even the tracks the train is on are grandiose and gothic, twisting through the city at crazy heights. Meanwhile, TDK and TDKR just have generic daytime New York with no extra effort put in to its visual identity.

2005 was an absolutely wild year because you hae probably the most important movie and video game of the decade coming out around the same time, with Batman Begins defining the next 20 years of blockbusters and Resident Evil 4 revolutionizing action games

Would be curious if you could give a specific year because I think we still do get plenty of very good movies. Changes in release schedules, pandemics and strikes, insane budgets, and ALOT of filtering out the garbage released in previous years have all made them less visible, but I think we still get just as many great movies. Also, a lot of movies only gain recognition years after they're released, so it's too early to say that isn't going to happen.

I’m really glad that James understood the point of the first Jarhead movie. It’s a movie that is pretty much only ever understood by Marines, this coming from a Marine. Everyone wants a badass action movie about military deployments but that movie is the embodiment of what a deployment really is.

I'd like to share a really harrowing experience with you all. The thing about Monthbius that they don't tell you is that a lot of people die. I was a cinema usher on the day that Morbius opened in theaters. Ten thousand Morbies lined up outside my theater, ravenous, rabid, foaming at the mouth. Of course, our theater couldn't accept them all. The capacity just wasn't there. But, who was I to turn them away? So I didn't. That was a mistake. All of the Morbies were in the theater, morbing, dancing to a song still ingrained in my memory. I still hear it every night. It lives on in my Morbmares. "Have sex, have sex, poop my pants again, poop my pants again, poop my pants again, have sex." That was the song. I lost good people that day. I don't know if you know what it's like to wade through a sea of Morbies to try to get to a fallen soldier. As they morb all over him. And what can you do? They say you have to fight fire with fire. You have to fight Morbies with morbing. And I had to morb, and I'm not proud of it. But it was the only way. I saved some lives that day by morbing. I morbed here and I morbed there. But let me tell you this. It wasn't worth the chunk of my soul it took. I fought off 10,000 Morbies with my bare hands. I'm a goddamn war hero.

23:35 is Maso reciting the central thesis of Mark Fisher's "Capitalist Realism" which talks about how media that satires political figures and events in the modern era provides a false sense of catharsis for the viewer, which discourages them from taking action in the real world. Compelling stuff, Maso!

constantine the movie is fine as a movie but it's not a good hellblazer adaptation at all. it takes some ideas from the comic including the lung cancer but how any of it is handled is just totally different. i was recently rereading garth ennis run of hellblazer it takes inspiration mostly and stuff like gabriel's character is so much more interesting in the comic. then again a hollywood movie would never include all that stuff including the political commentary and the humanity of the characters. recently rewatched the nolan trilogy too and dark knight is the best one. batman begins has a better gotham but is weird and racist and wasted scarecrow pretty much

@mouse_roar 3 күн бұрын
Being more faithful to the book doesnt mean it's a better movie, though. Stephen King did a TV miniseries version of The Shining that's incredibly faithful to the book in ways that the Kubrick movie wasn't. And the King version sucks. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is more faithful, but Depp's performance, the bizarre addition of some backstory scenes that ruin the mystique, and a few of the effects being shoddy even for the era hold it back from being as iconic as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

I was a big fan of the Colbert Report as a kid, and I do have to admit that the first few years of Late Show were rough. I just stopped watching, because I was so sick and tired of hearing about Trump (as a non American). That was true for all late night shows though. If you watch the more recent stuff though, yeah its definitely not on the same level as the Report but its a huge improvement over what it started out as. There's a reason why he is seen to be generally on top of the ratings for late night shows.
