Pop Female Singers' Most Serious Vocal Flaws | IS YOUR FAVE PERFECT?

Jojo: I decided to go with her whistle register because she has great lows, belting technique and head voice.
Ailee: It's debatable, according to some it's the chestiness that is the most serious issue. I decided to consider high larynx her biggest flaw because she has plenty of chesty supported upper belts. Don't get me wrong, she still should develop a healthier, even mix.

But SHE CHOSE to sing like what it is today becoz she like having rough vocal texture n wanted to sound edgy n more soulful.. But with tht damaging technique im afraid her voice would not survive when she entered her 50's n beyond.. Her mid belt already sound wayyyy heavy n rough today.. N she already dodged and sing-talk in most of her performance already. Her natural voice is a lot lighter then what she tried to make us believed. In her early day, instead of embracing her light tone, she chose to lower her laryx to give impression tht she has big weighty voice like whitney. She would have mariah belt like quality if she chooses to embrace her natural lighter tone..

Good morning ! When singers use whistle a lot when they sing, they can no longer sing because of vocal cords problems. The life of a singer is shortened. Less than whistle, but falsetto has some effect too. Nevertheless, Mariah is a legend. By the way, where is So Hyang, incredible, fantastic and great singer in this world? Ditching something that's blocking her to resonate and to understand her clearly is a no no. Not to talk of all other tensions she has cause she is improperly placing her voice, thus damaging it.

Demi's major technical issue is really the other issues you mentioned (high larynx, nasality etc.) her vibrato is an issue but not major enough for the masses to take notice... JoJo's main issue is her mix in belting; it sounds quite tense a lot. Great video!

Jojo just has a pretty chesty mix that gets the best of her (I think that's her biggest flaw) after prolonged singing so she starts pushing when she's feeling tired. Otherwise, she's relaxed. And tbh Demi's worst issue is her godforsaken pushing + her love for high belts. It'll destroy her voice in the long run, whereas her unnatural vibrato really only hinders her support.

The difference is JoJo sings with the correct technique to when belting or resonating in the bigger notes while Demi, unfortunately, strains and pushes the notes she knows good and well she cannot hit otherwise...its unfortunate because Demi can SANG, but she doesn't seem to want to learn proper technique to save her voice for the years to come...JoJo will have a voice much longer than Demi if that keeps up...

If she was using good technique, even with allergies, she wouldn’t sound like someone is putting her voice through a meat grinder...JoJo sings with allergies and she still sounds like she can hold her notes without cracking (unintentionally) or stopping or going sharp/flat. Gaga's head voice is not bad, but aside from her consistent support and sweet tone, it doesn't have any other remarkable quality to it, which is strange considering the caliber of her singing as a whole. It's not as developed as it should, though she's still improving. Polishing her head voice would benefit her mix because Gaga's belts often have a chest-dominant mix, she can possibly support higher in belting range if her head voice is fully trained. Additionally, I hope Gaga can experiment with her placement, I think she sounds better in upper belts with a lighter mix (compare the F5 in "Bang Bang" to the F5 in "Bad Romance"/"You've Got A Friend"). :)

Gaga could be a star rated vocalist her blows are excellent, she is excellent at belting, she has excellent near flawless technique, she has pretty good agility but she needs to showcase it more and she has a very powerful and beautiful tone. The only thing that holds her back is her head voice. She has so much potential in her head voice she has reached a C6 in head voice. I think she can go higher if she worked on it more and get more comfortable with using it. That being said she has improved a lot in her head voice.

I think the reason why Lady Gaga doesn’t use her head voice as much is simply because she doesn’t need to and also for self preservation. She can last longer in the music industry with songs that don’t have the use of head voice than having to be able to hit high notes later down the line in 10, 20, 30+ years

Totally agree with agree with most of this. But I did dig Demi's vibrato as an artistic choice - seemed like she was using it to differentiate between sections of a song or make a repeated section feel fresh

I have never been able to stand adele's voice. She constantly just sounds like she's yelling. Nasally, scratchy yelling. Everyone raves about her but her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Because of this video, now I understand why!!! She's just straining the whole way thru.

Yeah you’re not wrong, listening to a lot her live performances all she does is strain and she’s not a very good technical vocalist. But she has a big lovely and unique tone that she can sometimes resonate, and it tends to make up for her terrible technique.

Kelly's problems started after her pregnancies but I believe she will get back on track cause she used to sing operatic style before and when she started singing pop rock she would always use upward tone placement which made it very natural and applied vibrato.

Her throatiness, no matter how much I can’t stand it sometimes, is something she wants to do. She does what she has to do to achieve that sound.

"So Hyang" must be the best level artist in this world considering perfect singing skills, high-pitched precision and sustainability, clear and unique voices, voice control and also, freely perfect singing various genres such as Pop, Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, R&B, Classic, Gospel… This is from an objective points of view separating individual tastes. For your reference, So Hyang's vocal range is D3-C#6-D#7 with Chest, Head and Mix Voice. That’s incredible largest. So Hyang is impressive though because her supported vocal range is E3-C#6-G6 with Chest, Head and Mix Voice. That’s very much large. She has one of the largest supported vocal ranges in the world. In addition, please listen to the rock song, "It is only my world" with her gospels and you'll know how charming she is with a low tone songs. Have a good day !

i’m happy ariana improved lots this year. 2019 is her prime til she gets to her ACTUAL prime in her 30s. she’s: - less shouty - less nasal - less tension - less high larynx (starts at F5 but oh well) - improved falsetto - IMPROVED BELTS - ease equal to HMT - IMPROVED LOWS - improved head voice - WHISTLES - improved breath control - improved tone (subjective tho) - IMPROVED SUPPORT (she supports at least 1 C5 / C#5 every night) [not to mention, she’s been supporting the D5 in fake smile lately which is INSANE. lol HMT unsupported B4s can’t relate]

Xtina's "throatiness" is indeed her technique that she called "raspy". In one The Voice espisode she demonstrated a same note with both growl technique and raspy technique. Whether you call it flaw or not, it's totally her intention and under full control.

As a little monster myself, I will say that Gaga has great support throughout her range since she's really well trained, but she's not (yet) masterful enough to maintain the same skill over her every register, especially head voice. With Joni Mitchell and Barbra Streisand (both self-trained singers) as examples, they have roughly the same highest supported (head voice) note as Gaga but they can do so much more within that range, be it their ability to sustain, project, resonate, construct runs etc. At Gaga's worst, even a sub-par singer like Lana Del Rey (her head voice is actually decent) can use her head voice with more tone and stability.

Watch "Million Dollar Man (live at Olympia)" and "Money Power Glory (live 2014)", Lana's head voice is more fluid in such performances than Gaga's G#5 showcased in this video. It doesn't mean Gaga is an inferior vocalist, her technique is great no matter where she sings, but head voice hasn't been her strongest suit. I do agree that Gaga unquestionably improves on a much rapid rate than Lana, since Lana doesn't even consider herself a vocalist so it's obvious she will never reach the level of a trained singer, though she has more potential than she's given credit for (decent low notes above F3 and connected head voice up to E5/F5).

She's a great singer, yes she can support her head voice up to G#5~A5 but she lacks that freedom, flow and that ringing/round/fullness in her head voice. Well another is her agility well bcs she's mor a belter not a much R&B or melisma center that's not too bothering. Take a look such as Beyonce or Jojo doing their head voice.

- Demi should get singing lessons ASAP. Not to learn how to sing, they know how to, just learn to use their voice but not kill it, learn proper techniques. - Christina (sigh) get a vocal coach before you destroy your beautiful voice please. - Holy F, Ariana can do almost anything with her voice, just maybe use more enunciation? - My issue with Lady Gaga is her early growling/screaming (remember Poker Face live?) whatever. However, she has improved a lot. - Adele is great, but I wish she'd knew her limitations, that example was like girl. - I think Jojo should learn how to control her whistle because that was all over the place. Great video and very accurate a few of these ladies I feel are sacrificing technique for the sake of style....Some of them are intentionally singing that way to capture an emotion while others simply need training.
