Just think how wild the crowd would be if she did that today
@yonkcity8 жыл бұрын
+Debbie Bunzl They'd love it. But only because of the trailblazing activism and hard-fought persistence of personalities like RuPaul, and Boy George before him. As someone of Gen-X, it's refreshing to realize how far we've evolved within the last 20 years. Just imagine the cast of "Prancing Elites" performing on that stage, in 1993, instead.
@katwebbxo8 жыл бұрын
I was only a few months old when this performance happened but I remember loving this song as a kid. Ru even guest starred on a few shows I watched in the 90's. I didn't know what drag was at the time but I thought she was stunning and I was drawn to her for having the courage to be different. Such an inspiration.
@mmoran37 жыл бұрын
I think Gen X was the perfect time to come out with that!!! We had already seen Boy George and Michael Jackson and glam groups like The Fixx and Pet shop boys as kids so by the time we were in our late teens early 20s this was not as shocking for us!!! I remember being 18 when this came out and was not at all shocked, it was actually kind of fun and as a member of Gen x felt like we were superior for loving this with such ease!!!

I actually remember watching this as a kid when it debuted in 1993. I felt like then I saw it differently. I thought because Ru had this surprisingly big dance hit, everybody was feeling it. But watching it as an adult I see that only some of the audience was feeling it and the mainstream still had a ways to go with accepting a drag performer's ascent to success. But look a Ru now. A bona fide superstar with a hit TV series and mass acceptance, especially among the younger LGBT audience.
