My hair is braided similarly. I dampen my hair every other day in the shower and add leave-in and a bit of oil. I also sometimes steam it while in braids and wear a shower cap at night or for an hr or two during the day

I don't ever use the combs in the wigs I wear. I always use a wig grip. It not only protects my edges, but secures the wigs in place. I drive a BMW Z4 convertible and my hair doesn't move!
