Currently running on alpha 3. Its alpha, people can't expect perfection right out of the box. I for one like what im already seeing. I use this on my personal desktop. For an alpha? Very solid. Yes some things are lacking but that WILL change as time goes on. 6 months is the estimated time for stable release. Maybe one or two more alpha releases and then beta comes. Once the first release comes, then come the real refinements

Is it possible to change system fonts there? The default font does not suit me.
@kskroyaltechАй бұрын
Yes you can change system fonts. As of know I tried installing the third party fonts, it didnt show up in settings.

I will switch from gnome arch to comic arch 😊

always a bit painful to see, that people are judging whole distributions by their desktop visuals 😞 there is so much more to a GNU/Linux system, just dig for it and you will find all the beauty 🙂
@ADHV4YАй бұрын
Yes but cosmic is literally a DE, the visuals matter I think, but most importantly, it's usability and stability
@ronny332Ай бұрын
@@ADHV4Y Funny how people are different. I use Plasma 6 on Arch Linux, without any tweaks or configuration. Wallpaper changed to my taste, bar(s) to autohide and of you go. As I normally use Alacritty/Thunderbird/Firefox/Gimp/Blender all day, I don't see anything from the Desktop at all, as all apps draw even the window decoration by itself.

Well they have chosen to but time and money for this endeavor people have to right to give their opinions
@kskroyaltechАй бұрын
Yes a distribution can be judged based on the desktop. It's the UI end user mostly spends on. Linux backend is rock solid.

Everything looks a bit excessively spaced.
@kskroyaltechАй бұрын
Will be fixed.
@MyAmazingUsernameАй бұрын
Nah that is not beautiful. It's apparent their team lacks a designer. The horrific spacing issues around the dock edges is still there. The windows and controls still look amateurish, with no sense of harmony or cohesion. Like a child randomly placed legos around the floor. But competition is still good to have.
@whyoureadАй бұрын
I don't know if it's that simple. beautiful to me nonetheless. Maybe the devs already know or gave the answers as to why some people notice something's off and if it is to fix later on. I assume the focus is on simplicity to not overdo anything and to deliver the stable easy-to-use product.
@whyoureadАй бұрын
I believe ricing will be nice once people start using it. Mark these words😉
@MyAmazingUsernameАй бұрын
@@whyouread Icons and GUI controls are all kinds of different sizes and thicknesses and styles. And the dock corners are awkwardly cramped against the icons. It's sad that they design this in 2024 when everyone has seen what good designs should actually look like. I hope they solve this with more polishing.
@agnuswulfАй бұрын
Yeah... I appreciate the technology behind the DE, but the UI itself is... The ugliest in all of Linux, I'd say. In every single aspect.
@RealRajatShahareАй бұрын
It's in Alpha release bro. They are going to polish it afterwards.

I wish they added an option like blur my shell to make any app transparent and blurry either way already switched to cosmic files since I hate how basic nautilus is.
@eMorphizedАй бұрын
It really needs some more advanced theming controls. Maybe they could add an advanced theming menu that has things like per-object margins and padding and per-application theme overrides, and clearly indicates that changing these settings might break UIs.

It’s in alpha release, and as of March 2025, they’ll be working on the look and feel with a more polished layout. Let’s give them time-it’s going to be a great distro and a solid alternative to GNOME.
@kskroyaltechАй бұрын
Correct will take some time.More over animations are not perfect. Switching between workspaces is awful.
@eMorphizedАй бұрын
@@kskroyaltech the DE is designed to be mostly compositor-agnostic, so you could probably run it under Wayfire or something
