I think Ben getting his older brother in the band was a great move and likely will spur a new era. Must be surreal having the brother who got you into pop-punk now in your band and just trying to chase the dream of being Blink-182. I hope they totally embrace that for the next album and just have fun with it. I actually loved the last album and the experimentation on it but think a pure pop-punk album would do them well in 2022.

The lyrics, to me, sound like someone playing a character who's extremely dissatisfied with modern life and 'the state of the world' or whatever, while the chorus is a reality check answering that negative character with "STFU and move on". I'm not sure the verses 100% reflect anyone in the bands' views

Ben talked about when writing this song he just wanted to vent a bit in this one particular song. I don't think this is his permanent headspace from what I've heard in interviews and when he talked about it on stage a couple days ago. So I think putting the emphasis on him living his life like this is not exactly right. Anyway I think the song is a banger and it absolutely went off at Slam Dunk Fest this weekend so I'm happy
@JimmyGenome

My thought was "maybe he just wants a vent song" (obviously corroborated by his statement) and my question in addition to that was "what's wrong with the occasional vent song"? I'd understand the annoyance with this if it was an entire album

I think part of the beauty of this song is that the lyrics do come off kinda boomer-ish and cringy, but I'm pretty sure the chorus is Ben being a bit self-aware about it. Like he realizes the shit he's saying is kind of eye-roll worthy and he's telling himself to shut the fuck up about it.

@ZacAshby
@ZacAshby 2 жыл бұрын
NFTs can contextually be an issue to be passionate against (being an environmental/social issue) so I don't understand why that's the most outlandish topic to be focusing on in a song. Like I said, cringey execution or not. The general statement you made was that they should, is essence, just "be happy" within their own contexts/lives. Like I said, cringey execution aside, your same argument could be applied to Bad Brains, Anti Flag, Bad Religion, the Ramones, etc., even American Idiot era Green Day, that they should just "write about something different and be happy with the system you live in". Almost writes off the genre as a whole

The complaints about the lyrics here are strange to me. While pop-punk has often focused more on personal life/issues, punk at its core has always been rooted in social commentary and critique, and I think this track in particular really threads the needle in a very clever way.

In my opinion this is the EPITOME of 2020s pop punk! Please bare with me and hear me out. Musically, as you said you can't get any more pop punk. Lyrically, I think it was great the man spoke his mind out and basically talked about his thoughts and interests, if you follow him on instagram you probably know what I'm talking about. On the same time they've covered almost everything that happened in the past 2-3 years or so. Lastly, pop punk (and punk in general) lyrically is based on pop culture, politics, whining and overall giving you that suburban feeling like you listen to your friend bitching about his problems. Sorry, if that was too long. Keep up the good work man

IMHO lyrics are just fine and fun, and they have the right "social critique" style i like in a punk (even pop punk) song. Sometimes it's simply fine to be "negative" about something, in order to gain more awerness of problems and try to solve them, it doesn't mean to be a "boomer" c'mon man. The history of punk it's full of examples: think about American Idiot!

I really don't understand why a lot of people - including you here, Finn - always think that a Song has always be the actual thinking, behaviour, meaning or else from the Songwriter. I just don't get it. Do you guys also think about Theater or Movie like that? 🤔 Like "okay, The Actor is behaving like this and just said these lyrics. That is clearly his own opinions."? What about writing a Song from the perspective of another person that you as the Songwriter just tried to put yourself in the shoes? Another good example is in my opinion "Pretty Fly (for a white guy)" from The Offspring. Clearly, this Song is mocking those white overconfident self-loving idiots, not praising them. To me, this is the same with "STFU". My two Cents here. Anyway, Finn. As always, I like your style on how you approach the Video.

Hey finn, if you're wondering what England listen to it's Pop: Ed, Dua, Anne Marie Grime: AJ, Aitch, Ardie, stromzy Literally that's it. No rock music I'm afraid 😅

I'm pretty sure that he's telling himself to STFU about what he's talking about in the verses. Also, it's a baseball bat because they filmed the video in Louisville, KY....home of the Louisville Slugger. Not sure if it was on Neck Deep or Max Moore's page, but they had a promotional shot of Ben holding the bat with the Louisville Slugger logo out.

I really can't blame bands for still hating on MGK. The guy is literally the textbook definition of a tourist. He was just chasing extra clout because he wasn't hacking it in rap. Like the guy can be as successful as he wants, good for him. But his very existence is a disrespect to the scene, and I can't see him ever being accepted by them after making so many amateur mistakes.

even finn has said the "wasnt hacking it in rap" is a brain dead take. he had multiple number 1 albums. he was doing perfectly fine in rap. hes on record always having loved rock music and he made an album. im not gonna say if its good or bad but your points are just parroted falsehoods.
