Xanth - if you have any desire to read some of this whimsical and punny series, I was WRONG the first book is A Spell for Chameleon. Castle Roogna (which I mentioned in the video) is book #3.

The Piers Anthony brought back memories when I was a kid (in my 50's now) and would rent those books from my library. And the size of books back then allowed you to carry it around in the back pocket of your jeans. 😂

I have truly never read another book like Foundation. As your dad laid out, the chapter arcs are self contained but are definitely connected to the larger plot. It’s a book that absolutely focuses on the overall plot rather than the characters themselves. The characters are really just the medium through which you the reader are getting the plot.

For me, one of the most fun things to do is to really mix up my reading. The next book might come from a different decade (or century) and a different part of the world. I get the same vibe from your channel as well as your Dad's reading list. It was funny hearing people talk about the Xanth books. I remember reading those in the 80's. I assumed the series wrapped up and faded away long ago. Nope. Wikipedia says the 47th (!!!) book came out in 2023.
