Had things worked out a little differently Canarsie would look absolutely nothing like it does today. A bit over 100 years ago, with the Manhattan and Brooklyn piers getting crowded, the city came up with a plan to build a huge new seaport on Jamaica Bay, centered on what was then largely undeveloped Canarsie. Had the plan gone through Canarsie would have been an industrial and commercial area with docks lining the shore. As things turned out, nothing came of the plan, the port went to New Jersey, and Canarsie became residential.

Wow. I did not know this. Had that plan went through, I guess there would be no Starrett City either(?)
@R32R383 жыл бұрын
@@bellarue3065 Hard to say. The Paerdegat waterway was the planned western end of the port, in fact the city dredged and straightened it in anticipation of the project, but plans were a bit vague as to the eastern end. Though even if what's now Starrett City wouldn't have been part of the port facility it still might never have been built because that part of Brooklyn would have developed in such a different manner. At one point the city had an even more ambitious plan to build a ship canal connecting Flushing Bay and Jamaica Bay along what much later became the route of the Van Wyck Expressway. In 1912 the state refused to appropriate funds for a preliminary study and the idea faded away.

I have a few questions!! Lol because when i think about NY i think about the mtv serie, The city! 😅 or those tall ass buildings.. but #1 is this the ghetto? #2 where is the subway ? Thought NY was all about the subway but i see non. Is it only certain places?
@NegrilNegril724 жыл бұрын
In Canarsie there is only have the L train... (Rockaway parkway stop) he passed it close to the end. Canarsie was known as a “two fare zone” ...you have to take the subway to the bus to get home, or you can walk from the subway, or take two buses. Canarsie isn’t the “ghetto”.
@NegrilNegril724 жыл бұрын
@ 6:39 when he makes the turn by the Capital One bank the subway is right next to it, it rides outside in Canarsie, it’s not underground.
@dubreil074 жыл бұрын
The subway doesn’t even run in all the boroughs in nyc. Many parts of NyC have no subway access. Especially parts of Queens and Staten Island

Is this a safe place for travelers to visit around 8 p.m. after sunset? I'm curious because my Asian teenage son who respects Popsmoke said he really wants to go.

@@404GamingCrew true statement. Good on you for recognizing that. The first step is don't be afraid to be labeled a snitch and second stop glorifying rap artists; their lyrics are directly contributing to the state of mind of these youths committing violence on their own people because of gang beefs. It's so unnecessary and unfortunate, the black community thrived decades ago and have been demoralized by politicians telling them they're victims. That's my opinion at Least. I'm off Italian heritage so I don't know the actual struggles from a black mans pov but this is what I see as the issues amongst other things like father's being there as a role model. Thanks

@@anthonyw9129 wow. I agree, bro. From the rap influencing us negatively, down to that word/label, snitch. Its ridiculous the amount of traps and holes that we perpetuate,on ourselves, every day- although, I also see and believe we arent the only ones to blame and a lot of our current state of being, or lackthereof, is a by-product of our oppressors and systemic racism, which fall under the umbrella of the bigger picture: slavery(which is easily understood by anyone who doesnt play the racist or bias card)
