Hey, I'm a little curious....how did you get into pop-up? Is it just a hobby, or was it a job (not counting the books you've written but designing)? What reason did you started KZbin channel for? How did you learn? This is a really great hobby for me and I really appreciate your channel. Thanks!

I recently gave a little talk (on zoom) to The Moveable Book Society about exactly that - how I got started and how I learned. You can see it at - kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3q2l6V6qMaMp80 - The whole video is quite long - my section starts at 1 hour 22 minutes.

Hi, Duncan! I love your channel. Currently, I'm finishing my degree in graphic design, and I'm developing a pop-up book as my final project! My college asks for some interviews, as to prove the relevance of the product I'm creating. I would be extremely grateful if I could ask you some questions on the subject.

Hi Juliana, yes you're welcome to ask me questions - probably best if you send them direct to my email which is listed at the end of each tutorial.

@thepop-upchannel49194 жыл бұрын
It takes a lot of time and organising to set up the video making - the videos are mostly concerned with how mechanisms work rather than making specific designs. So..... sorry I can't see making a basketball court in the near future.

I've had the tall Rapunzel mechanism in mind for a tutorial for some time now - also the mechanisms where pulling a large tab makes the whole pop-up flip over to reveal another pop-up. I won't be able to make any videos untill this lockdown ends and I can meet up with Jane - so we'll probably manage it sometime in the summer. They are all very advanced mechanisms - meanwhile you can probably get a long way to making some of those spreads if you experiment with the suggestions in the Playlists.

Sir, can you pls explain the mechanism from the book "color suprises by chuck murphy"-- green color...
@thepop-upchannel49194 жыл бұрын
The design is made using parallelograms (Tutorial 5) over the spine of the book and then they are used to activate an Automatic Pull-Strip (Tutorial 16). Usually the shape pulled up by the pull-strip is curved but in this design it has a vertical crease down the middle which makes the angled box shape pop-up.
