In case anyone was wondering this song is full of historical references to fascist ideologies. The references are as follows.. The "It can't happen here." Lyric was in reference to Sinclair Lewis's novel that warned Americans that fascism is not a problem unique to Europe. The "when they come to etchnically cleanse me." Is in reference to Martin Niemoller's famous 1946 speech where he criticised the anti-nazi intellectuals for not doing enough to stand up against fascism. A stylised version of this speech can still be found in many memorials. The use of the word 'ethnically cleansed' is incredibly provocative as this was the deplorable language the Serbs used to defend the attempted genocide of the Bosnians. "Politics of Hate" is in reference to the 1968 editorial in the Times which called for the expulsion of Enoch Powell from the torie party for his "Rivers of blood" speech. The "freedom of speech does not make it ok" is in reference to the case in the 90s where a BNP politician was asked to not use terms like 'paki' and 'darkie' on air by the BBC. When he refused the BBC refused to air the racist rant. Which in turned made the BNP a martyr for the cause of freedom of expression.

The funny thing is though, that it's the "anti-nazi intellectuals" that are the modern day fascists.

I was filmed together with Graham tonight on Never Mind The Buzzcocks - that bit when they do a line-up and the panel has to guess the 'real' celebrity. So I had to be a fake Graham from PWEI. That was weird. I have to say all my empathy was for Graham because it is not easy to be of such talent and weigh up whether or not to appear on a show like that. Because it's pretty harsh in its way. "All good fun" and all that, but. Anyway, we fooled the panel which was a good start. That took some teamwork. And then I came home and discovered ICH BIN EIN AUSLANDER. So. Graham, thanks man.

Hey, I have been alive for over 15 years. I know that you have also been alive, and that's all. You have lived through things that I have never experienced. Just like how I have lived through every moment of my life, studying it thoroughly, and yet you know nothing of me. I find this very interesting. Intriguing. It's fascinating, how you can see hundreds of icons everyday and not realize the importance, potential, or the vast history of even a single one of those "icons." ("icons" being real people, in real time) this is something I plan to help change. I will promote this change by simply explaining my cause, as I have just done. I would love to learn from you, and share my life experiences as you or I see fit. Or, to simply listen to what you have to say. Just introduce yourself. Hello, my name is judge.

Canada's largest terror attack was by [seek] separatists, who run "Genocide 1984" dogwhistle recruitment campaigns around Vancouver. Our Federal NDP leader is banned from entering[censored country name] for supporting them. They are a higher percentage of the population here than in [censored], and it would be much easier to start a nation here than in 'Khalistan'. The only ones who aren't allowed to celebrate nationalism are people whose heritage lays in Canada or Europe. The rest demand separate legal systems, and live in cities that are 50%-70% immigrant. Canada as a whole is expected to be a majority immigrant before 2036. "Stats Canada Demographic Simulation 2036" By then, the majority of the country will less than 60 years' familial heritage. By then, Toronto will be 90% immigrant. 90% of immigrants will live in the cities, while 80% of 'heritage' Canadians will live rurally. A 2-class country. Especially with "Protected Classes" and a law that allows discrimination, and says "Equity Means more than Equality".

They are talking about current, for their time, violently racist tendencies in the far right.

This is tight. I dont even like this kind of music but heard most of the album "Dos Deidos Mis Amigos" at a friends and loved it.

"Ich bin ein auslander" translates to "I am a foreigner" in German. The entire album is good. I first knew they had a video for this awesome song by watching Beavis and Butthead.

I thought that it meant “I am not a foreigner”

@@system720 No it is 'I am a foreigner.' 'Ich bin kein Ausländer' is “I am not a foreigner.”

“If they come to ethnically cleanse me. Will you speak up, will you defend me?” 30 years on and still relevant.

i've always like this song ever since it came out, the whole album in fact. Never saw the video until now however. I have to say it's hard to give the lyrics the gravity they deserve while watching them dance around in uv clown paint with comically oversized guitars.

there was a trump video version of this posted here recently. It's pretty brutal, but apt. Viewer discretion for sure.

It's satirising the common musical videos of the era, if you remember them. :) Pop Will Eat Itself never took themselves very seriously.

I've been looking for this for a while now. Probably in 2000 or 2001 a good friend "lent" me this cassette(yea those were a common thing). I gave it back, less than willingly.....more like he was in my car and was like "hey! Is that MY tape, you mothertrucker?"

I was just checking in to see if other people suddenly heard the lyrics to this song creeping into their head in the last few days. I just looked up the lyrics, it almost gave me chills.
