What a great video - very entertaining and a great double act. The bar looked a nice secure place to leave a bike, a place to look up if I'm cycling in the area.

Glad you enjoyed it. Its been a long time since me and Alan rode together, but hopefully we'll organise something soon!

One can never have too many alans on a ride 😉

We recently covered the Beenham to Devizes stretch and return, hoping to find more By -ways, bridle paths, permitted by-ways on the return leg than we actually did, as a consequence had to retrace some towpath on the return leg. Great day out, lots of other canal users to take into consideration, made some sections slow.

That's the only thing about this trail, it does get busy. Don't attempt without a bell 😉 Did you just freestyle the route back? I've found opencyclemap.org to be really good for planning new routes.

Loving you presentation style. Way to many guys on here taking it all to seriously. Iv'e cycled down that way myself a few times. i always tended to stick to the canal, with a nicholson canal guide you know exactly how many miles you've done. And it tells you where the pubs are. and when the locks are up or down. i'm over due to cycle the K&A again, one of my fave canals to ride. Gary AKA 'Bushcraft dads' youtube channel

Cheers, glad you enjoyed the vid. I can't see myself ever taking my riding too seriously, it is all about having fun for me. I just did the Kiel ship canal a couple of weeks ago. Much bigger than the K&A but not necessarily better.

Should pubs still be closed and no accommodation en route, would you chance wild camping ?.
@JethroJessop4 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't be ideal. I'm sure you could find wild camping spots if needed but it is not a very remote route. I think if I was planning on freestyling the camping I'd probably look for a different ride

Watchable video fellas thanks.I want to do this ride but it's unclear if the towpath is accessible all the route.Also don't know if some improvements have been made to the middle ish section which I understand is quite poor to cycle on.Where did you stop on day one?Is it possible to do in a day?
@JethroJessop4 жыл бұрын
It's towpath the majority of the way but not completely. The route takes in some small roads as well here and there. I'm not sure if work had been done since we ride it but on the whole the surface is fine as long as you are riding a fatter tyre. I think we were both in 26x2.75 We stopped in Devises on day one which was well over half way and I think the full ride was around 100 miles. Personally I wouldn't attempt it in a day but I'm sure it would possible if you are that kind of rider. It's a nice ride though, especially in good weather, though the path can get busy on certain sections

@@JethroJessop Thanks for quick reply.I will attempt it over a weekend.Probably too busy to complete in a day anyway.Will stop around 50 mile mark then.Is there a video of your trip to Germany?Another madcap idea is to cycle from the Hoek to Denmark.Don't you just love the ideas that sitting on a sofa during lockdown creates???? Thanks again mate. Dave

There are videos of most of my rides on my channel. I did Denmark/Norway/Sweden last summer but I did Hoek to Denmark and Sweden a few years back (kzbin.info/aero/PLeEZMO6am23F84YlWr2HcROuuy7YSEdVh). I love cycling in Scandinavia - could entertain myself there for years to come. I'm doing exactly the same as you at the moment - sitting in lockdown making lists of rides I'll try to do once everything opens up - I'm mulling a winter trip to Portugal thenScotland in the summer (along with a dozen other possible destinations). I'm far from an expert but I've done the route so if you have questions I will try and answer if I can :)

Btw we are glove brothers , did you start from the Oracle
@JethroJessop4 жыл бұрын
Greetings Glove Brother (probably Glove Bruv as it rhymes). We actually started from Caversham but the ride proper started at the footbridge where the Kennet runs into the Thames, about 15mins downstream from the Oracle
