Yes Amanda Peterson was an incredible treat to come across--- I met her in Phoenix at a Resort, in 1998. I have heard of other people's accounts of meeting and interacting w/ her. So when she came walking down the sidewalk at me, I was sweetly surprised. When she engaged with me, I couldn't believe how cool she was and complimentary to me when I met her, She treated me as if I was important. I'm not a name or anything else and Amanda acted like I counted. She's wonderful. I thank her, she didn't have to be as awesome as she was....and I Thank GOD too for smiling on me with her.

So sad to see just how full of life she seems in this film and then the harsh contrast of the life that followed. Such a shame.

Can we all talk about how freaking cute Seth Green is as Ronnie's little wiseguy brother? He steals pretty much every scene he's in. Future legend.

You're running the gamut of movies my sister would make me watch growing up, Dirty Dancing, and now Can't Buy Me Love. Just watching this with you brought up a lot of memories from growing up. This video reminds me of why I like to watch people, especially you, react to movies I've taken for granted.

Amanda Peterson (Cindy) sadly passed away 2015, after having had problems with mental illness and drugs. Her movie career ended in the early 1990's. She was a sweet and very nice person, and I remember that both director Joe Dante and Patrick Dempsey shared their memories of her after her passing.

When I was a kid, this movie was my sister absolute favorite movie, so I think I saw it about a dozen times over the years. Back then, we had only cable, or a few movies on VHS, and cable was only about 25 channels back then and most were news and such. So we tended to watch movies over and over on VHS. My sister must have saw the star wars movies and Alien movies more then a few times, and I saw this, and another movie called "Teen Witch" a bunch of times, when it was her turn to watch movies. For some reason, this movie grew on me, and reminds me of that weird simplicity of having the share the VCR and who's turn it was to pick the movie that night.

This is an interesting movie because the real lesson here is Cindy who through the movie realises just how shallow her popularity is and how fake he (and thus she) was in maintaining it.

it’s really interesting seeing how he squeezes into the cool clique and how you see his interests juxtaposed to cyndis interests. he takes something like astronomy and helps cyndi to see it from a whole new perspective she gets ronald to see how hard it his to get people to be impressed by you based solely on things like what you wear, eat, drink and do

Once you've seen a lot of these 80s teen movies. You have to watch " Not Another Teen Movie". It's hilarious! Basically a parody of all the teen movies out there . All the cliches, and if you pay attention, a lot of cameos of stars from those teen movies. !
@ScientificallyStupid2 жыл бұрын
that movie is an underrated gem, and Chris Evans (before he was Captain America) is incredibly funny in it. I often start singing "Prom Tonight" when I play Breath of the Wild because there's a musical cue in Goron City, I think, that sounds like the opening of that song (drives my husband nuts).

This is probably the only love story movie that I ever liked. Because there were other elements in the story also. Growing up in the 80's really was the best.

Well this was unexpected. I am an 80's kid. 100% I was 8 through 18 in that decade so was neck deep as you might expect in all things 80's, music, fashion, films. Can't Buy Me Love was one of my favourites, I had a copy and had seen it so many times I knew it pretty much word for word. So many classic scenes. Patrick Dempsey would then go on to star as the lead in 'Happy Together' with Helen (Supergirl) Slater which by all accounts tanked at the box office but I seem to remember I liked it. Of this same era and genre (I'm going by memory and it was some 35 years ago) I would strongly recommend 'The Sure Thing' which I think was John Cusack's break out role, and also the film 'Class' starring Andrew McCarthy and Rob Lowe. Andrew McCarthy of course starring in the likes of Pretty In Pink, St Elmos Fire and Mannequin ALL of which should also be on any 80's list of movies to watch. Fun Fact - the big muscly blonde jock who only has a minor role in this one, went on to star in the much acclaimed tv series Tour Of Duty set during the Vietnam war which was very popular subject matter for the '80s, but that's a whole different topic and genre.

Being a nerd and an outsider growing up, I could so relate to this movie when it came out. Seeing Ronald go through his changes, yet not realize what he was doing and the impact to Cindy was understandable, as he didn't know about social convention and relationships. All of his missteps were believable. And my heart broke for every misstep on both their parts. We should all have our ride-off-into-the-sunset moment in life. GREAT REACTION!

Hey CAssie you got the Classic nerd make-over scene. The time spent with nerd negotiation was priceless. Ronald went from not sitting together at lunch to 4 lunches a week. Toss in the Cowboy belt buckle and I think that parlay went pretty well. Take it from a former cool kid who used to hide how much he studied so he wouldn't be made fun of. I approve of this coming-of-age flick.

One of my favorite movies. There’s a sad part though. When I looked it up a few years ago to see what Cindy did after the movie and it wasn’t good news. She retired sometimes in the 90’s then a few years after that she was getting into a ton of trouble between drug possession and DUI’s. She OD’d several years ago. I believe I read that she had actually been off drugs but recently had surgery and got back on them again. Sad story and really bummed me out growing up in the 90’s and her being one of my movie crushes.
