Yes indeed, and both were based on a the true story of the late Houston News Reporter, Marvin Zindler (who was still working for KTRK in Houston until his death from cancer in 2007 at the age of 85) exposing the Chicken Ranch in LaGrange, TX (which was also the inspiration for the ZZ Top song, LaGrange). Dom DeLuise's character is based loosely on that of Marvin Zindler.

"Well as you can see Bandit, I've got my piece in my hand." "You've got your WHAT in your hand?" Fun Fact: Only Dom DeLuise and Burt Reynolds franchise team-up. Preeminence Privilege Fact: Jackie Gleason's scenes were filmed first because he was ill and he wanted to be finished with the movie as soon as possible. Music Enthusiast Fact: The Everglade Gas Station Attendant (Dudley Remus) played the guitar part of the famous Deuling Banjos (1972) in the movie Deliverance (1972). Automobile Enthusiast Fact: To the chagrin of the stunt crew, the Turbo Trans Ams didn't have quite the performance they were hoping for. So to get a respectable amount of speed out of them, they installed nitrous oxide tanks. An Elephant Remembers Fact: Charlotte, the Asian elephant, was portrayed by an elephant named Cora. Cora was owned by Bill and Cindy Morris of Elephant Encounter. Bill was a second generation elephant trainer. He and Cora literally grew up together. Both of his sons have also worked add elephant trainers. Sadly, Bill passed away suddenly back in 2015. Their last two elephants, Cora and Shannon went to live out their years at Topeka Zoo in Kansas. Cora is nearly 60 years old now. Epic Stunt Fact: At least at the time the movie was made, this picture contained one of the biggest car chases in film history. Publicity stated that it involved sixty stunt-men and stunt-women, one hundred cars and eighteen wheeler trucks. When the sequence was concluded, $250,000 worth of vehicles had been smashed. The world record for the longest stunt car jump by a car powered with its own engine, at 163 feet, was performed for the film. Stuntman Gary Davis jumped a 1974 Dodge Monaco car for the roundup sequence in this movie. Davis unfortunately was injured during the stunt, receiving a compressed vertebra from a hard landing.

You should do a Race Car series with Stroker Ace (Burt Reynolds), Six Pack (Kenny Rogers) and Days of Thunder (Tom Cruise). Great observation, Toni! There is definitely no place between Florida and Texas that looks like that. I remember a place near Dallas (Grand Prarie) called International Wildlife Park from 1971-1992, they could have taken the Elephant to, so that may have been the inspiration for the movie. Part 3 isn't really very good as a movie... But it can be fun, if you go in with low expectations. The TX /LA border is basically flat with trees. Only getting to the West Part has mountains.
