After seeing Polish actor Piotr Adamczyk play Pope John Paul in the Polish film I do not wonder Albert Finney did not want the part,and his instinct was correct.He does not come within a mile of Piotr Adamczyk amazingly authentic capturing of the character of that wonderfully beloved and holy man but Piotr Adamczyk does so beautifully........❤🔥 an acting masterpiece.💘

I was in 8th grade in 1978. I attended a Polish, Catholic school, run by Felician Sisters. My teacher, Sr. Paulinette, was from Poland. We watched the entire Pope election process re the daily smoke "update" on Black and White tv. When she learned that the new Pope was Polish, she cried. This astonished me because in the two years that I knew her, she never once showed any emotion of any kind. I didn't quite grasp the profundity of that moment then, as I was only 13. I am so grateful for this movie. Having watched it, now 58 years old, I feel as I imagine Sr. Paulinette did. Praise Jesus! Prayers.❤

I’ve always liked this film. Its not available as a dvd though it should have been. Jon Voight’s portrayal of JPII was excellent too but this film shows more of what Karol Wotyla was doing in getting Jewish families away from the German army and secret police. This film stops at the beginning of John Paul II’s papacy while newer productions explore his whole ministry.
@nicholascostelloe8845 жыл бұрын
This is a good movie made for it's time, once again the story of John Paul II is insightful and inspiring, and this film does a good job of presenting a different take on his life. Honestly though, I prefer the John Kent Harrison version from 2005 starring Jon Voight and Cary Elwes. In my opinion, that mini-series is the ultimate John Paul II movie. Here are the reasons why: 1. Because of the way it's shot and edited 2. The amazing performance from Jon Voight, who looked and sounded more believable as John Paul II (no offence to Albert Finney, who was and still is one of my favourite actors) 3. The supporting cast, Ben Gazzara, Christopher Lee, James Cromwell etc. 4. And of course, who can forget the breath taking music score from Marco Frisina. "Open the doors" is a great example. But that's just me. Oh and fun fact: the real John Paul II originally wanted Jon Voight to play him in this movie, but he turned it down. Who would've known that Voight would go on to play him 22 years later!

I actually prefer this version but I enjoy both. I think this one presents a more realistic depiction of a young man.

Just on a purely technical point of view, surely it is not within the bounds of our brilliant technicians to have English subtitles included on this brilliant movie on the career of Karol 'Lolek' Wojtyla from the beginning of 1939 to his election and installation as Pope John Paul II. I have the movie as a Video Cassette from Republic Pictures (VHS 7037) and it's very good. I have waited in hope for this to be released as a DVD so it can include subtitles in English, among others. Please

"Karol: The man who became pope" is way better....Of course, this was filmed 20 years later than the movie I said here, but still there were more Polish actors, which knows something about the traditions and gestures of the Poles, so it was more natural and more climatic. I always find it difficult to follow what Pope John Paul II was saying when I listen to his sermons. Karol`s speech, (19:04 in this video) is an example. To follow this with understanding, I would need to pause every few seconds and spent a minute thinking about what he said in order to make sense of it. Many of his speeches were like this. People admired his intellect but I think the content of what he said was lost to many because what he was saying was to complex to make sense of without analysis.

2 Kings 9 27When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road to Beth Haggan. d Jehu chased him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam, but he escaped to Megiddo and died there. 28His servants took him by chariot to Jerusalem and buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in the City of David. 29(In the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king of Judah.) 1 Kings 21:29 "Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son." Joel 3:2 I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.

This movie was shot in 1984, five years before the fall of the iron curtain. So the outdoor scenes were not actually shot in Cracow but in the beautiful Austrian city of Graz. I was a student then, and I was picked to be one of the extras in the fight of the students agains the soldiers. We had great fun then, but never knew exactly what the film was about (the Pope, of course) - and it was not until a couple of minutes ago when I heard that Albert Finney has just passed away that I found this film on youtube. We, the extras, never met any of the main actors, but we got paid a little sum, a lunch, and even a bottle of beer. All of the scenes that show "Cracow" were shot in Graz, and it is funny to see how they joined the various scenes that would never be possible in real life. JP2 might have been a good pope, but he was not a great pope, as far as I'm concerned - but this is my private opinion - and the Catholic Church still has a long way to go and overcome to be as tolerant as their doctrine suggests.

Is Catholic different from Christian?
@markuszfr3 жыл бұрын
Roman Catholic religion was founded by Jesus Himself.In every Holy Roman Catholic Mass,we do what Jesus did in the last supper,aka we offer bread and wine,the "wafer" will turn into Christ's Body,and the wine will turn into Christ's Blood,then the people receive the Holy Communion,which is Christ's Body itself(they eat it) Jesus said on the Last Supper:"Take and eat, this is my body and blood, which is given to you. Do this in remembrance of me."And we do the exact same Jesus told us.Although Christianity doesn't agree with us;they call Catholic's "worshippers",but they ignore what Jesus said(what I quoted earlier). The liturgy is interesting tho: 1.The Liturgy of the word: Greeting Prayer for repentance Kyrie eleison Gloria Reading from the Old Testament Reading from the New Testament(Letters) Reading from the Gospel Preaching 2.The Liturgy of the Eucharist: (I will tell later) You can separate two Catholic Religion:Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic Roman Catholics believe that in the Tabernacle,behind the Eucharist Christ's Body is present,while Christianity does not. The Greek Catholics believe the same;a Roman Catholic can receive Holy Communion in a greek catholic church,but a Christian or Calvinistic,etc..can not,because they don't believe in the Eucharist. People used to tell us we "worship Mary";we do not.Mary,or someone from the saints did not gave their life for the world's sins.We worship and glory God,we love Mary,just as a kid would love his mother,and we respect the saints,but they can NEVER reach the level of God;but Christians don't want to understand this,so they called us Marians,not Christians. I won't receive a notification,so if you have any other questions,feel free to text me on instagram,under the name:markuszfr
