The substance was known, it was carfentanyl They taught us about this during my undergrad in pharmacy; it’s basically the only time carfentanyl was used in human It’s an insanely potent opioid used for large animals like elephants for surgery, iirc its about 100,000 more potent than morphine by weight The reason so many died was they didn’t bring enough naloxone (antidote) A lot of those carried out would have been saveable if they’d brought enough (from what my professors had told me) edit: MB saw you discussed it at the end; but yeah the analogue itself is heavily believed to be Carfentanyl (the worst of the worst in terms of insane potency)

I would say 130 death out of 1000 is still pretty acceptable when accounting the large number of hostage getting cramped into a room and they were between a firefight

Definitely! Similar to the Waco video... I like to try and tell it as linear as possible so those hearing it for the first time can sink their teeth in it and get excited, until the issues at the end subvert every expectation they might of had. At least that’s how I think one would feel watching this event unfold live on their TV.

I'm not even saying it was the wrong choice....they did save 700 people. Just that it would never have been approved in western countries. Had they notified the first responders as to what the gas was, and how to treat it it could have been the best way to deal with it. At the time though russia considered the gas to be a state secret and many people died as a result

The Chechen terrorists were victims. If it was the UK the hostage takers would have been given national honors and the hostages would be imprisoned for speaking out against their Muslim extremist captors. If the CIA really cared they’d have funded these poor extremists better. I’m just happy Zelensky the actor has been funded so well. It’s really beautiful to see his success after his acting career ended. What a great and insightful channel this is. Such a breath of fresh air from the other propaganda out there.

It is not, the opening scene was directly inspired by this event, from similar location (in the movie the siege takes place in another ex-Soviet eastern European country, Ukraine) and basic circumstances (terrorists take hostages in a theatre during a play) to authorities using sleeping gas during the siege which ends up affecting the hostages but not the attackers who happen to have gas masks.
