I’m so glad that you found a replacement body for that broken neck original Marylin doll body. Imagine all that hard work for nothing, had you not found a replacement body. Your Marylin make over doll is yours for the keeping. If you have children and grandchildren, it’s a sacred heirloom. I just got re-interested in custom (OOAK) dolls. I used to make custom clothes back in the early 90's, but that was it at the time. I found your channel by searching for information on re-rooting and re-coloring, and WOW have I learned a lot! I've had many of those Barbie bodies exhibit the same neck problem, even back when they were new. I'm sure it's not an issue of age, the plastic was just inferior. Exactly why I have more heads than bodies in my stash!!!! Thanks for the videos, I love watching you work, you are a true artist!

That's never been done by one of the doll artists (as far as I know) and would make an awesome challenge 😎👍 I would suggest Liz Taylor in black and white...but she should be done in colour because of her beautiful violet eye colour 😍

I used class cleaner to remove the yellowness on plastic, it works sometimes 😉 maybe she hat a hat on, and the pin was rusty🤔 someone cut it out, and was trying to fix it🤷🏻‍♀️ but i would be mad. Love your work, like always ❤️

The goo in her hair is the darn glue that Mattel uses, if you use the product that removes gluey labels and let it stau in the dolls hair for about 5 or so minutes it takes it out, I wash it out with dish soap first, than with a good quality shampoo rinse really well snd than a good quality conditioner leave it for 5 minutes and rinse well with warm not overly hot water and comb and style her hair. This method has worked very well for my thrift stores doll rescues.

I broke so many Barbies when I was little trying to remove their heads. I always wondered how you were able to do that without breaking them it seems they're constructed differently now.

Over on the retro computer/console restoration channels they use a technique called retrobrighting. It restores discoloured and UV damaged plastic using sunlight and peroxide. I do not know if it would be of use to you when dealing with heavily discoloured plastic bodies. It seems a lot more hassle that painting but may be worth a look.

I remember that dress from 1962. I also remember my grandmother's scandalized criticism of it. It's sad, but Old plastic, as you have seen, not only oxidizes but becomes very brittle. What surprises me is that the newer dolls did too. For the record, that turned-under hairstyle is called a "pageboy". My mother wore a less-extreme version for years.

I agree with you regarding only using used dolls. I would never repaint my own boxed dolls. I only repaint dolls that have been played with and need some care to bring them to life again.

Next time you have a split scalp it may be easier to make sutures or sew the head back together via the other holes to make it a bit stronger before you use glue. When i only use glue then try to reroot the head tends to split all over again.

You can get rid of the discoloration by putting the body into hydrogen peroxide and leave it in the sunlight for a couple of days! It works absolutely perfect on hard plastic and silicone (this I have tried) and does no harm to the material!
