What is nice now with the new Nvidia Titan V GPU you can make your very own Poppy A.I. running on your home computer, just like Cortana. You will have a bit more work to do if you want to build your own Poppy Android, but within 6 or 7 years it will be easy enough to build your own android at home. 'Poppy' is a Virtual Character, and the actress / singer / song writer that plays that Character works fairly hard to stay in Character. With a decent ThreadRipper system with one Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti GPU - running your very own virtual Poppy would be fairly easy. A simple Poppy AI could run on any smartphone, chit-chat with you, and otherwise sing and entertain. Regular hardware for PCs could run a Poppy and take a short cut by building in APIs to harvest data from Cortana, bing, etc - leveraging their AI outputs. It all depends on how realistic you want the AI to appear and how complex you want to build its AI - a simple Chat Bot doesn't need much work, but if you want to give it real research skills, you probably will need to add more subroutines and train its neural network on larger data sets.
