I feel like, the Critter is like a rebellious animal. It still has the soul on the innocent and knows whats going on. So the scientists ( or someone ) had to (🔪) the Critter. So the secret cant go out to the main critters we see in Chapter 3 EDIT - And when they said "The new critters are too bright, dont you think?" Meaning They are the only critter not to be under the Prototype’s control ANOTHER EDIT - "Before Catnap, I were." Which it could mean that they were the ones to first use the red smoke, leading some workers to their demise and/or being generally similar to Catnap, with the "counting sheep" idea.
