They're meringue mushrooms. If you google them you'll find a gazillion recipes. I first had them in 1991, so I know they've been popular for many decades, but I'm not sure when it became commonplace to put them on Yule logs. I just know they're one of the best things I've ever eaten.

I shall join the apologetic pill correction corner…In theory because it is a French word you could soften the Shar and different regional accents can have an effect. It should be a ter . My pet peeve(culinary grad and daughter of a grammar nazi) is people wanting to call everything a charcuterie board. Charcuterie is meat, crudités is vegetables, the cheese stands alone😂 as a board and if it’s on with the meat it’s cheese and charcuterie, everything else is snacks and anyone doing those butter boards should be convicted for putting folks at risk. All this said in love with a tinge of grammatical frustration.
