This video has been RE-RECORDED (and I think the new version is MUCH better). However, this seems to be a popular video, so I'm not going to delete it. I do suggest you check out the entire updated playlist at • Physio 16- The Nephron

Hurray!!! Have known about this system for years but never understood WHY low sodium occurred in the DCT and why it was associated with low blood pressure. Thankyou.

You are an amazing teacher! I know it sounds corny, but finding someone to explain complicated material into an easy to understand way is not easy. Keep the lectures coming. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to do these lectures. Dawn Curry

Thanks for the very informative videos. I wanted to ask you about the location of the jaxtaglomerula cells, what you are pointing out are they not the mesangial cells instead?

shit I thought that the macula densa, when it detected low Na, meant that, since water follows Na, that if there is low Na, there's probably low water. But ur saying that low Na in the ascending limb means that there is low BP b/c that means that there was enuff time to filter out more Na, whcih probably means that blood pressure is low. This assumes that BP in it and of itself does NOT affect Na transport--is this correct? (i'm aware we need sodium transporters w/ ATP).

+oopalonga I only ask b/c I know other molecules, such as proteins, ARE affected by BP. . .for instance, if u have really high BP, there's a chance you'll find protein in the urine b/c the protein under high pressure is able to squeeze thru the glomerular filter membrane during hydrostatic pressure
