I think we humans can use any of the 3 patterns. In a typical classroom at school, the desks are dispersed uniformly so students sit at equal distances from each other. At a restaurant, the tables are dispersed in clumps for each family or group of friends to share a table. At a beach, everyone is dispersed randomly to sunbathe, tan, collect seashells, or play volleyball.
