William Booth, born on April 10, 1829, in Sneinton, Nottingham, England, was an English Methodist preacher who, along with his wife Catherine, founded the Salvation Army. This Christian movement, established in 1865, has a quasi-military structure and government. Booth’s vision extended beyond religious conversion; he aimed to address social injustice and alleviate suffering. The Salvation Army, under his leadership as the first General from 1878 to 1912, spread from London to various parts of the world. It is renowned for its humanitarian aid efforts, including feeding and housing the poor. Booth’s legacy lies not only in religious revivalism but also in his commitment to social reform and justice
