Nice shooting, Pete! Porphis definitely seems to be stepping big on the scene. I have the LPH400 with 1.3 & 1.4 and both LV4 and LVX air caps. It's a wonderful gun, but it does have its limitations. As you've stated, most do not spray it at the suggested pressure, and doing so, it creates somewhat of an issue with thinner clears. Too much atomization can cause the solvents in clear to evaporate prematurely, which leads to less flow out. This makes setting the gun up rather finicky unless one is willing to add slower thinners or slow down using lower pressure. In the cooler months, this isn't a problem, but in warmer months, an RP gun I've found to be better. Perhaps the LPH400 makes for a better basecoat gun in those conditions. At least, that's been my experience which means little. 😂 Keep up the great videos. Always love watching and hearing you!

Hi Boss, Yes, Porphis has been around for about 15 years, making different levels of gun, their professional range, has, as far as I know, had a bit of a makeover in recent years to be where they are now. I'm really enjoying using there different guns, built quality is very good, certainly up to the standard of most of the bigger names, time will obviously tell. I know exactly what you mean re the over atomisation of clear coats, it's not such a problem for us in the UK as we rarely have warm weather so it makes it far less likely to occur. Thanks for the comments mate, they are always much appreciated, cheers 👍

Another great video Pete. I really enjoy my LPH400 1.3 LV4. Its my go to gun these days because of the low overspray and fine finish with clear. I tried the WBX cap off my W400 and I really dont like it for clear. Mite be good for metallics. I will have to play around with it some to see which one I like for metallics. Id like to get my hands on the LVB and LVX caps along with a 1.4 nozzle to play around with. The LPH suits me very well spraying in my garage. Its sooo easy to spray. I really like the soft spray. I spray at 18-22psi full fluid with my thin clear and it atomizes superbly. I close the fan some to clean up the dry spray on the edges. It works at higher pressures just fine. I noiticed its faster. Pumps out more fluid and the pattern gets bigger but with more overspray. Kinda defeats the purpose of spraying with the LPH tho. Cheers

Hi Marc, You sumed it up pretty well, mate. I use the LPH400, Wider4L, and this Porphis WP99V at various pressures, and they all spray very well at lower pressure. The cap I have on the Wider4L is the same as the LV4 cap you have, and there's no doubt it does well at low pressure. I've recently got another Porphis, the PRD717, which is a split tip, and that is proving to be amazing at low pressures, certainly exciting times, I'm trying it alongside the Wider4L as I originally thought it would be like a WS400 type gun but it's proving much more universal than that, cheers buddy 👍

The WBX and LVX are the same cap, just different color collars. The biggest change you'll see is using the 3 split nozzle from a WBX on the LPH400 with LV4 cap, essentially making it a W400LV (not the same as W400 with the LV2 cap)
@peteshobbies5383

Hi Boss, Yes, they certainly look the same. Trying the WBX cap with a 4 split tip is on my list to do, including with the WS400 series 1 tip as it has the bigger air holes, I just haven't gotten round to it yet 🤔
@bosshawg7427
@bosshawg7427 6 ай бұрын
@peteshobbies5383 I believe the UK didn't get the LV4 air cap, nor the LPH400. Instead, you guys get the WBX (gold), we get the WBX (red), but they're the same as a orange LVX. Iwata appears to designate the same cap with different psi ratings according to territory. I'd love to get my hands on a 3 split nozzle since I already have the LPH400 with both LV4 and LVX

@bosshawg7427 They all fit each other, so a WB or WBX tip set would work with the LPH400, Sprayguns Direct, or Paintingtoolsjapan could send you a set but they are expensive

Hi Pete, a very good comparison here as both guns are evenly matched apart from the price which will have a big bearing on which one people will buy considering there is no difference with the finish they put out, both guns laid the clear perfectly, like you I'm thinking that the build quality of the Porphis guns are spot on so IMO it's a bit of a no brainer🤔 The Porphis guns are also getting quite popular across the pond as most of the big players on YT are now using and giving them really good reviews👌it's been a while since I bought a new gun but I think it will be one of these with the split tip design but I'm not sure when as I'm still looking for one of those high end drones which are the same price as 4 of these guns🙄 Cheers Pete and a very enjoyable video👍

Hi John, Yeah, these two work just as well as each other which is amazing considering the price difference, and I would also bet the Porphis will last just as well, maybe even better considering I've had to repair a few of my Iwatas including this one. This Porphis gun, the PRD717 and the PRD627, are V grove split tips guns, they are slower than their standard partners and work at a lower pressure, they are providing to be absolutely brilliant, so ditch the drone and get yourself one on order 😀, cheers mate 👍

Yeah I'm thinking the same about the build quality of the Porphis guns I recon they will last just as well as any high end gun from the leading manufactures. I'm hoping to get a Porphis gun with the split tip which will be next on my list but I've been wanting the latest drone from DJI for a very long time and even more since my last attempt to get one went to💩😆 I have quite a few large scale helicopters which have 6 foot plus rotor span but these are difficult to fly these days🙄cheers mate👍

@JohnWD40TC02 Well mate, it seems like that drone is proving rather elusive , but I'm sure you will get one soon. The more I use the Porphis guns, the more I feel happy with them, I now class them as a quality manufacturer, in fact, I've had to move the Kiwami4 guns to a different less plush storage case as my Porphis PRD guns are going in there 😍😂, cheers mate 👍

I got my porphis prd-715 for being able to put clear down quicker than my dv1-c and i really like it. Its comfortable, is awsome looking being blue/orange/black, i like the click adjust volume knob, and it really puts clear out, the fan can adjust out to like 16" width and its very easy to use as i haven't been able to make clear run though all i have used out of it has been Acme Finish 1 fc740 high solids clear. I have been considering getting a Porphis prd-51 1.8mm for primer if you could do a review on it

Hi William, I've recently got a PRD515 in stunning purple 😁, it's a 1.3, though, and I got a 1.0 conversion kit for it. It doesn't disappoint. It's made really well. It is a nice size, a bit smaller than the 715 and 625, as you might expect. I've been trying a PHS135 in 1.3 and 1.8. They are there cheaper range, and that's been very good. It can lay clear, base, sealers, and high build primers with ease. It's not built as well as there are more professional guns, but certainly great value. I'll try and get a 1.8 setup for the 515 sometime and see how it goes. Cheers, mate 👍

Another thing is the very linear nature of their fan control , it's really very good on their guns, ANI could learn a thing or too from them for sure 😀

Hi David, Yes, It's a very good basecoat gun. They make a few different caps for it, but 2 of the 3 are generally regarded as good base caps

hi Pete thx for all the vids, which chinese gun would you recommend for spraying solid color on a ute restoration, my first restoration thx in advance.
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 8 ай бұрын
Hi mate, If you have a good air supply and only intend on doing the one resto something like the Ntools 4000B would be fine. I'm judging by your use of the word ute you are in sunny Australia where some have said things like the Ntools 4400B isn't available for anything like the price it is in the UK. If you're after a better quality Chinese option, then these Porphis guns are providing very good in both performance and build quality, if you don't mind spending the money on quality then the Porphis PRD625, PRD715 and this gun are all options that will serve you well, hope that helps 👍

@travlite8496, I think you would be surprised how little you even notice it. The first side cup I tried was a Chinese Iwata W101 copy, I was really impressed with the little gun and the fact you can move the cup about if needed, in use, set in the standard upright way I don't even notice it, it feels no different to anything else. I have many side cup guns now, so it's something I never think about, if you get a chance to try one jump at the chance, I think you'll find it surprising, cheers buddy, appreciate it 👍
