Dana's voice is so incredible. The bands music and her singing building up into that beautiful angry crescendo of noise places porridge radio as the absolute best upcoming band. No questions asked.

i have a thing for bands screaming in a church, plus the vivienne westwood clothes made the perfect aesthetic. thank you for playing homecoming song at the end, dana saying there's nothing inside of her while that thin thread of sunlight shows up behind... so poetic. chef's kiss

That they haven't exploded into public consciousness is more a matter of timing than being another alternative group that hasn't broken through. They released Every Bad only days before COVID shut down the world. I truly believe they're poised for hegemony. They have a massive, tortured-soul sound that mirrors the time like the great punk rockers of the 1970s did.

Interesting band, lots of talent, and they look like being on the brink of a (real) breakthrough. But I guess that's a two-step. One good album (Every Bad) is not enough, but it puts them in the right direction, that's for shure.

Yeah there's try hards at Power Moves in corporate attire, rugby players try Power Play, aehy've done Power Poo because of porridge see when aehy got serious about distance athletics aehy would eat a big bowl of porridge before heading from Newport to Albert Park Lake to try sprinting for 10km so 2 laps of the lake in 1990/1991 parking the car at the Carousel Restaurant carpark for a while my guts on fire me DESPERATELY needing a "Power Poo" after 1 lap said faeces exploding out my butt and me not getting an Elve's chance to sit said Power Poo was on the toilet seat aehy thought abstract art yeah aehy did set the World Records for the Men's 5km/10km running in 1991 and no aehy don't know who found the Power Poo they lifted the toilet seat squashing said Power Poo eventually my guts got used to porridge now aehy eat porridge daily you get the quick oats, pinch of salt, 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup milk, serves 1, pop 2 tablespoons of golden syrup in your bowl first or stir a big tablespoon of strawberry jam through the porridge as it cooks or some other jam but not quince no not marmalade you're a rational human being.

I like this, or rather I want to. They sound very studied, very self aware and very trust fund music college. I'm sure they will tour with the xx or others like them and just as sure some BBC drama will use their music for a series. Like porridge, it's OK, it's good for you and you know you should support it but ultimately you want a coffee so strong it makes you stand up straight. You want a bacon butty full of rendered pig fat with real butter melting away. Only real pain makes real music. This is ultimately ersatz or at least it is to my ears.

Real emotion makes real music. Not all emotion is pain. And as long as it as perceived as true emotion by the person making it, who are we to judge? Your definition of good music limits it to being made by the kind of people who only exceptionally are actually able to make music. Guitar music has been middle class since forever. Musicians have been from the middle classes since forever. If you consider that privilege (perhaps it is) and precludes your enjoyment of it then that's your perogative of course. If this is ersatz... I don't mind ersatz. I get what you are saying but I think you are making life too hard for yourself. Enjoy it at whatever level you want.

There is so much great stuff here, but the reliance of every single song upon the lead singer's histrionics and "I'm awesome, but you're REALLY mean to me" subject matter of every single song is limiting. They do a great job of expressing their subject, but the subject is consistently so one note that it is hard to care.
