Porsche 718 Cayman GTS: Exhaust Sound, Drive, Acceleration, Pops and Bangs, Revs

How good and loud is the sound of the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS? How intense are the crackles and pops and bangs? Let's find out!
I used to be very unsure about a 4 cylinder engine in a Porsche, but as always, the folks from Porsche managed to build something wonderful and great. I never heard a 4 cylinder sound like that! It is very deep and bassy, the tone reminds you of a V8 when you sit on the inside. And the pops, bangs and crackles sound quite nice and aggressive as well.
If you ask me, I'd still go with a 6 cylinder naturally aspirated boxer sound any day. But the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS with the sports exhaust sounds good in my opinion, I like it.
But listen yourself! Grab your favorite pair of headphones or speakers, turn the volume all the way up (not too much though), sit back, relax and enjoy the nice sounds coming out of the Cayman 718 GTS together with me.

I have a Subaru and this wonderful Cayman sounds NOTHING like it. I think one person started that then someone chimed in and repeated, then the massive monkey-see-monkey-do phenomenon evolved. This Cayman, the S and the GTS are more fun and excitement than one can have with their clothes on.

Mich würde mal interessieren wie hoch die ladedruckanzeige bei Vollgas geht? Bei meinem 718 GTS komme ich nicht über 1,0 oder 1,1 Bar hinaus obwohl ja eigentlich 1,3 bar anliegen sollten.

Jonny M Thank you very much, I appreciate that a lot :) I also miss the flat 6 boxer engine. But the government regulations kind of force the car manufacturers to produce smaller engines. But this is by far the best 4 cylinder engine I have ever driven! And if you buy the previous generation Cayman with the flat 6 engine now, it will increase in value a lot :)

Porsche is not about sound, emotions or “fun” (leave that to Ferrari or Lamborghini, although Porsches are fun). Porsche is all about going fast with scientific accuracy. Also, many legendary Porsches have 4 cylinder engines. I admit that I prefer the 981’s sound, but I also prefer performance to sound. Speed is more fun to me than sound. And yes, I’m not fun at parties.

@@dheevesh16 not true...Porsche is about all sound, emotions, fun and more. The 718 is great car but it lost a bit of it's enjoyment when they downgrade to a 4 cylinder engine. If it was true Porsche wouldn't be adding the exhaust option to all new 4 cylinder cayman. Standard

I would take the previous Cayman GTS with a flat 6 over any other Porsche. I have never drive a better car then that one. experience vise

Klingt einfach komplett falsch. Der 4.0 flat 6 Motor ist ein muss beim Cayman. Der 4 Zylinder mag preislich besser sein aber vom Sound her einfach nicht richtig.

Very nice car. Poor sound. Until this day I haven't heard a single 4cyl engine that pleased my ears. That alone would be reason enough for me to save up even more just to get a 911 OR an older version of the cayman with 6 cyl! nice video though !

@@TheDonshaz i did in 2020, it was the 2.0 base model. it does not sound different in reality, if one is 100% honest. My comment is like 3 years old and I got so tired of the 4 cyl discussions over time. I got to try out the new gts 4.0 model early this year and there it was again, all the magic, all of a sudden. Even though it has the particle filter. Nevertheless i got the 981 because said 4.0 or even 911 where out of range, the prices went crazy the last few years.

I had the 981 and the 718 and the 718 is superior in every way. I loved that flat 6 sound, it was nasty but the turbo sounds behind my head and instant boost when I tap that pedal have a sense of filth not one video I’ve watched sums up. Drove the 4.0, damn thing is quiet as a mouse unless you’re living in the higher RPM’s but again Porsche knocked that thing out the park in every other way. Amazing vehicles, my favorite to drive out of all 3 is the 718
