I too am impressed with his tinning skills but to be honest, Bondo (plastic filler) gets a bad rap. If used in very thin coats like tin it lasts as long as the metal around it. It' the hacks and shade tree mechanics that gave bondo a bad name. Most million dollar show cars contain a light skim coat of plastic filler.

All replacement parts should have the panel factory serial numbers still intact or there is the possibility the piece is stolen. Verifying the numbers cuts down on stolen vehicles. If there is a motor vehicle inspection required before the car is released to be returned to the road, the stolen panels will show up then. My state (USA) required a classic car I bought to have an inspection by a state inspector before they would approve it for road use. This reduces the resale on stolen vehicles. I like this law. Incidentally, my car did pass inspection.

Why not? It's probably put back together better than from the factory.
@antn5373 жыл бұрын
@@GavinJLang because he’s just butt welded edges of panels to other pieces of panels, that originally are pressed one piece panels that are bonded and welded to other one piece panels. Those panels are only joined in specific places and not just cut and joined where it’s convenient for the donor parts. There’s no doubt he’s good at what he does and *cosmetically* these kind of repairs look OK, but they will be nowhere near the structural integrity of the original. In the UK where I live this kind of ‘cut and shut’ job would not be allowed on the road, although unfortunately there are dodgy 2nd hand car ‘dealers’ that will scam unsuspecting people into buying a death trap. So as I said, he definitely has skills, but these cars are nowhere near being back to factory engineering specs, let alone “better” than factory as some people are commenting. This would be a disaster in a side or rear impact.
@dominjezdzcabobrow55383 жыл бұрын
@@antn537 I agree, this Porsche should be scraped. Arthur strengthened butt welds with additional cover plates so they should not break, but this change how the whole structure works - it is even possible that due this local stiffening fatigue crack develop somewhere in the structure.
@antn5373 жыл бұрын
@M R If the extent of the damage and the method of repair is made clear then thats up to the buyer, but there are far too many who don't/wouldn't disclose that kind of information if they can get away with it. I'm not saying frame damage isn't repairable, but there is a limit and this kind of repair looks (I'll admit I'm not a qualified engineer and is only my opinion) beyond that limit to me. I wouldn't agree with a blanket statement that 'metal is metal', otherwise car companies wouldn't spend millions on safety/structural engineering when designing cars. Certain regions/countries will have rules or regulations that would restrict or prohibit such a 'Frankenstein' being offered back to the market as a running/driving car. I'm pretty sure someone like Trading Standards here in the UK would take a very dim view of any dealer offering dangerous cut & shuts for sale. Each to their own as always, but personally I don't care how much of a discount is on offer, if its a choice of knowingly (or unknowingly) buying a car thats been stitched back together to the extent its essentially two halfs from different cars like this or a patchwork of panels in critical areas, then no thanks.

@@Blazin2133 Im not say he not talented ,he beyond !!! Incredible skills !!! have a dozen factory aluminum certifications !!! including Tesla,Maserati ,cadillac Ford etc !! without getting into a long explanation ,manufactures have detailed and specific collision repair procedures along with specialized tools and equipment , 1st,NO sectioning of any vehicle! 2nd NO pulling the structural at all!! if you have to pull for access its done on a bench where the vehicle is bolted down with fixtures designed just for that model, notice that he clamps the car on this contraption and when pulling to whole car is moving? what's happening is hes twisting the car and compromising and damaging the pinch welds .that along trashes the car!! its done !! with now when replace riveted and bonded sections you have to put the car on a frame fixture bench, theres a specific bonding product that only is available from that manufacturer .then the rivets are boron! you need a pneumatic blind rivet tool only made by wielander-shill beside it costing 15K it pulls the rivet at a slow rate to 22000 NM !! this guy is bonding that clip with standard sheet metal bond and using a pop rivet tool made for window regulators and very light parts . Ive seen the results of cars fixed like this !! its dangerous and this front clip will vibrate loose within 1000 miles !!! as far as the rear clip??? this Porsche is made of UHSS ) Super high strength steel) if heated or welded with standard mig and wire the molecules are damaged and the welded areas become brittle like a cracker !!! again TALENTED TECH !!! @MultiArrie3 жыл бұрын
the price of bread is depends verry mutch were you live in the world. The cheapest used 991 turbo s I could find was 96.000 euro. If he spend 100hours at 30 euro/h that is 3000 of labour.
@Marakeshh3 жыл бұрын
A porsche like this is 25/30.000$ in USA. 5-6000€ for Labour with paint, 15.000€ for parts… 60-70.000€ car and cheapest for sale is 90.000€… 20-30.000€ profit.

@terryhuang31364 жыл бұрын
strength for the performance? Yes, due to the stress in period of time when driving. so the car would have much less stability and durability as usual. for safety? Not that much. the structure integrity when against impact force effected by original design more than manufacture. u can see the materials are bond by multiple piece and layer, as long as he connect them corrently then all material would work together to against impact force when happend.
@christopherwright17954 жыл бұрын
This was outlawed in the U.K. , as I knew some young lads that lost their lives all in a 205gti that was a cut and shut , they had an accident and all died 4 of them , there were loads of accidents like this in the U.K. and the primary cause of loss of life was the car disintegrated on impact , because it didn’t behave the way it was supposed to in an accident some parts may have been stronger than they were supposed to be some weaker , but cars like the above video should be scrapped parts only cars and never go on the road again
@legioner94 жыл бұрын
@@christopherwright1795 Except for the welding line on the middle part, I do not see any further parts of the structure which might end up stiffer than from the factory. Do you?
@christopherwright17954 жыл бұрын
@@legioner9 do you think the strength throughout the repair is exactly the same as factory and react in the same way should the vehicle being involved in a serious accident , when I said stiffer , I mean the body will not crumple as it’s designed whether the repair is stronger or weaker and therefore the result of an impact is unpredictable compared to the original structure
