Hi Joel. I can't believe the lack of care that seal had been fitted with. It wasn't even at the correct depth. Nice job on the homemade seal tool though. 👍

Thank you sir. Yes, the same Garage also cross-threaded one of the bell housing bolts. But that’s a job for another day… grrrr

It seems remarkable that the older RMS was OK, given that someone seemingly went at it with a sledgehammer in the past...and that it wasn't seated all the way in too. Nice work and must feel satisfying to have done the whole job thoroughly.

I agree. Unbelievable how people work on these cars. No care whatsoever.

Nice job with the seal insert tool. And very interesting to see the movement in the old fly wheel vs the new, thanks for showing us that. Is the blue line feeding an oil filled IMS bearing? I still have the original on mine and no problems so far after 25 years on my 996.1 however its always on my mind to changing it.

Thanks Matt, yes, the movement was considerable. It also made an awful noise. Like it had a bunch of brittle leaves stuffed in there (if you follow). The blue line is indeed an oil fed IMS bearing. It was done just before I bought the car. There is a lot of hype on this, but if yours hasn’t gone in 25 years, it will be fine. Happy motoring and be sure to use the car and enjoy it. 🙂 They are such great machines!

Gotta get that compressor leak fixed!

Ahhhhhh, tell me about it. It’s like, either 50 euros to fix that, or 50 euros for stuff I need on the Porsche. 😅
