TBH this is my first Porsche (apologies for that) and it was Porsche themselves who advised getting the trickle charger. None of my previous cars have ever required one but I can see how ‘lazy’ it can be to start after being left for a week in the cold or heat. Once I purchased it from Porsche I could see/hear the difference straightaway

Another good video! I've had very good experience with CTEK chargers. I believe they even manufacture the Porsche branded charger. What has your experience with CTEK chargers been (if you have tried them)?

Thanks Jax, I do have a few CTEK ones too, just as good as the others. I've had one NOCO fail, but NOCO replaced it no question, sent me a new one from the US and asked me to take a pic of the old one with wires cut to verify it was no longer usable. Cheers, Raj

Jax I use a Porsche liveried CTEK trickle charger/battery conditioner for my 911 C4S. Perfectly good and no doubt you could purchase and equally good piece of kit direct from CTEK aswell. I know CTEK’s telephone help department is also very good and helping with queries

Happened upon you channel. The first video I watched was the cylinder scoring video for 996/997. Very informative!!! I'm researching to determine which model/year is the most dependable with the least major mechanical problems. I have a budget of about 105.000 Pounds. WIth this budget which model/year is the most dependable. I've heard late models with automatic transmissions have issues. It seems each model has a unique mechanical problem. Maybe I'm just over thinking it?

I think the 991.1 2012 to 2015 era seems to be the most reliable from experience. They do have small issues with the vacuum actuators x8 but easily fixed by a Porsche dealer/specialist. PDK Automatics are largely reliable from experience. Many thanks, Raj

Very useful thanks Raj. I use my trickle charger through the cigar lighter in the centre consul. I use it all year round and it is easier to access. When you said the car had "gone to sleep" what does that mean? Thanks.

Thanks Roger, good tip, although some of the 12v sockets in the cabin do deactivate when the car is off and locked. As long as you are connected to one that remains live then that's fine. After 5-7 days the remote central locking receiver switches off, to wake it back up to unlock the car, you need to pull a door handle or twist the key in the lock. That's what I meant by it had gone to sleep. Many thanks, Raj

I wish there was a good way to trickle charge for cars parked outside where one is unable to have a power cable running across the pavement to it from the house.

I wonder if the NOCO power pack (used for jump starting) could power a trickle charger for a period of time? My electrical knowledge is next to useless btw!

Have you checked out the new "CS Free" from CTEK? I have not used it myself, but I was considering it as a solution for my son who lives in an apartment and parks his car in a garage, without good access to a power outlet. You might check that out. I've had very good experience with CTEK chargers. I own 2 and use them on a sports car, SUV and an EV.

Hi Julian, I did try solar panels on the dash with some success, but it is fiddly with wires out the door, under the bonnet to the battery. Thanks, Raj

Maybe a solution?! I would check if they may have an auto switchoff on the power packs though after a certain amount of hours for safety. Thanks, Raj
