I googled this very car on the internet and some corrections need to be made here. This Porsche is NOT a 700 HP BI TURBO !!! The onboard-footage actually belongs to a 997 RSR with a 3.8 liter NATURALLY - ASPIRATED engine delivering some 465 HP (ex-works) to a max of 480 HP (depending on ECU settings, air-intake diameter, etc...) This nr. 118 Porsche was used by the Dutch Porsche - Lammertinck Racing team during the Supercar Challenge Racing Festival, on the Spa - Francorchamps Formula 1 race track, at the end of September 2013. NotSoJewish Nope, watch a normal 911 GT3 onboard and you should notice the difference providing your hearing is sharp enough. 7:25 is a good example, you can quite clearly hear the turbo spool and then suddenly shut off as he takes his foot off the throttle. For an hour long video you're choosing about 5 seconds where, to your ears, you think you hear a turbo? This sounds identical to every 911 fia Gt3 spec car I've ever seen before, you're hearing wheelspin I presume? And at no point is it "so much faster" - he's more ballsy to start with but the speed differential is no more than 20mph, the other drivers obviously just don't want to ruin their race with a first lap crash.

You can also see it suddenly lose traction as the revs build and max turbo boost is reached. No one takes it easy on the straights in a race!!! Why bother qualifying if you're just going to let people through on the straights!? The sound you are probably hearing is straight-cut transmission. The whining noise is caused by the teeth of the gears slamming together. Its nothing to worry about and the reason why it's not audible in most road cars is that they use helical gears to keep the transmission whine to a minimum.

The GT3 cup/RSR/etc don't come in turbo, as far as I know. HP is around 460. Maybe people are hearing the straight cut gears(like reverse on your car) on the sequential transmission, and think it's a turbo.

scientific pony this is a turbocharged 911. It's Not a factory spec car, it's a custom build with the RSR name. Besides naturally aspirated GT3/RSR race cars have a higher Rev limit.

The reason this car seems massively quicker than the rest of the field at the start is obviously because its on wet tyres and the rest of the field is on slicks. Scroll to 29 minutes when said wet tyres have burnt out and then see what happens. Not taking anything away from the car or drivers, obviously a great setup, but the supposed massive advantage was just down to the different strategy by the looks of things.

Wow, so much debate regarding whether this is NA or TT. It’s TT, here’s why (and yes you can TT an RSR, it’s called modifying the engine). 1) watch the boost kick at places like La Source hairpin or the last chicane before the start/finish line. The NA motor would have built more gradually, whereas this one snaps into power 2) Unless the other drivers have no balls, they are mostly GT3-style cars. How the hell is this 911 so much damn faster than everyone else? Look at the ease at which he got into first. 3) that number above the throttle is what appears to be a boost pressure gauge. It’s reading in bar, because Europe doesn’t use PSI. 4) If I remember correctly, a GT3 RSR with an NA motor will not hit ~200 km/h on the s/f straight in the rain at Spa. Seems more feasible that the motor is turbo’d if this guy is hitting that in the wet.

Why did the mclaren in 1st didnt cover for that slow right corner? Im not a racer but i know enough about racing to understand that he is messing up a few corners around spa, for example at 9:32 is misses his braking point and fails at the track in and at the apex, every decent driver would be faster than him at the track out. It might be some sort of amateur (or low budget) gt3 series. please correct me if im wrong, i would like to know that.

+simone pesenti This is not GT3 Series. The Race Series is some Private-Race-Series. You can see the Porsche have a stock Gearbox. So its some Tuned Street Car. And compared to the Fact that they are all Kind of Racecars in this Grid, i think its some Private-Race-Series, without any strong Regulations. Thats the reason why the Porsche is so much faster. Its like playing Gran Turismo in real life.

No, the rpm is actually way above iddle (which, after seeing the start of the video seems to be about 1800-2000 rpm). Thing is, first gear is a very "unstable" gear because it's when the engine can more easily push the car onward, so you feel a stronger "kick" when you give it the slightest bit of throttle, just like when you decelerate in 1st gear, you'll also notice a kick but in the opposite/"braking" direction, so to speak. If you drive a manual geared car you'll know that 1st gear needs smoother throttle control to keep the car stabble instead of getting that sort of "coughing" sound, whereas in 5/6 th gear you'll barely notice a difference. Hope this helped!

This is especially due to the racing spec gearbox and its straight cut gears. Contrarily to most road cars, which have helical cut gears. The straight cut gears have only one contact point to transmit the entirety of the torque, so the transmission is very much like an on/off switch. Slightest of throttle input it's on, slightest of backing the throttle, and it's off, so You're jerking backwards and forwards when at low speed because of the constant backing off the throttle. Helical cut gears have more teeth in contact at the meshing point, so it makes it for a smoother torque transmission and way less noise. Straight cut gears have better efficiency as well, hence why chosen for racing purposes when noise and jerkiness at low throttle input are not an issue. pretty sure this is turbo... screw all the whining noises... the boost kicks in around 5000 rpm... a normally aspirated engine doesn't accelerate like that close to redline... and you can hear it dump if he comes off full throttle between 5k and 7k rpm... keep in mind that the gear change is so quick that the engine is basically permanently in boost until you close the throttle completely...

Well the other cars on the track seem to be some sunday drivers. I can clearly see they coast very much, they are even lifting or worse, braking on exits. Most of them seem to be scared of carousel, which is the most important place to master... or otherwise even one class slower cars are going flying past you. Wet conditions, spa, amateurs. Professionals are shining amongst them, just like this driver.
