I like your video because I now see that I am not alone in making a mess when not planning to..... good work!

What if the car sporadically does a long start when warm and then when it finally starts it rises from like 200-300rpm to normal idle? Crank speed is normal.
@ThatLigarage2 жыл бұрын
Might mean you low pressure fuel pump is going bad, because it’s not feeding the high pressure pump enough fuel so it takes time to build pressure before it can have enough fuel to start it. But I would have to look at the car to know for sure. Don’t forget to subscribe 😉

Are both of the high pressure fuel lines reverse threaded?
@sergioiniguez6217 Жыл бұрын
Did you have to bleed the fuel lines after? Also, did you have to top up the coolant, I'm assuming this is the fluid that sprayed out on the video. Thanks!
@ThatLigarage Жыл бұрын
the fuel system is self bleeding when cranking the car

Did you have to bleed fuel system with a scan tool?

Nope just with the key

What do they sound like when they fail. Sometimes my DFI pump sounds like a clacking lifter and other times it doesn't make any noise at all.
@ThatLigarage Жыл бұрын
I’m nit sure if there is a sound but more so a long crank before starting because it takes it longer to build pressure then a good one dose

@@ThatLigarage Have you ever dissembled a 997.2 DFI fuel pump? I would love to see that video if you have one. I would like to know how they pump fuel, if they have a piston lifter and a valve inside or if it is like a rotary engine, or something else? Thanks again

@@ricksteelcustoms3196 that’s a great idea I still do have the one I took out, I was waiting to see if they had some rebuild kit for it One day so I can rebuild it to have on the shelf because they are so expensive. I think some parts need to be cut to take it fully apart so I didn’t want to destroy it, but will see maybe it would be a interesting project to find the failure point in them.

@@ThatLigarage I bought my 2010 997.2 3.8 non turbo over 3 years ago from copart for $22,500.00 and only drove it once up and down my street. Never even registered it. You can check it out I posted videos on it. I at one point I thought it had bore scoring because of a lout taping. So I put it up on my lift and it and used a large screw driver to listen to each of the cylinders and the taping was NOT coming from the cylinders. It was coming directly from the DFI pump. It sounds like an out of adjustment hydraulic lifter. But it only happens when I let it sit without starting it for a month or two. If I try to start it again the next day it makes ZERO tapping noise. I am guessing that it has something to do with some of the 1700 PSI fuel pressure draining out of the pump and lines. But at least I know for a fact that it is the pump and NOT bore scoring. I do NOT have any check engine lights on and it always starts instantly even if it ticks and no loss of power. Thanks again I am looking forward to seeing your fuel pump diagnostic autopsy video.

@@ThatLigarage This is the closest video I could find where they even talk about DFI pumps going bad and making noise, but it is less than a minute long. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJm2ZIGZpdxobpI

Dealer quoted $7000 for replacing HPFP on my ‘11 Turbo S. Your estimate on total time to change out?
@ThatLigarage Жыл бұрын
4/5 hours but I also have an aftermarket exhaust that makes it easier and dealer needs to cover there ass if somthing else gose wrong
@gotopless97013 жыл бұрын
How many hours to do this repair?
@ThatLigarage3 жыл бұрын
it all depends on what exhaust your car has on but I can get it done in about 2 hrs
