Sharing an alternative approach in case it can help anyone. This is for freeing up the harmonic balancer and the belt pulleys, particularly the compressor pulley... which is kind of thin and can bend. They are fairly large diameter discs, and in some cases the discs can be stuck on at the shaft pretty well if they have been there a long time. Applying a puller in this case can damage them if not careful. By using a rubber mallet and tapping around the pulleys and balancer as you get to each one, and with some patience, you should be able to gradually loosen them such that you can slide them off by hand. The same goes for removing the crank gear to inspect the front oil seal. The gear can get stuck hard on the woodruff key, and some gentle tapping with a brass hammer is all that may be needed.

@Anonim us - do you have a set of factory service manuals? I think that is what you are looking for. I paid $600 for the complete set of books, one of which is dedicated to just the engine. Pelican Parts sells them and you can find originals on Ebay. Yes, the price is steep but its already been invaluable to me. If you also do a search on "Porsche 928 Katalop" that will get you a free downloadable list of all of the drawings and part numbers associated with the 928. I have that and its been valuable in determining part numbers before I order them.
