btw i love this video. its amazing how they had these 800-900hp racecars back in the 80s with the tire technology of that time. i cant even imagine what trying to drive one at 10/10ths must have been like

That was my co-driver. We were on slicks while the Yellow driver had rain tires on. Our driver got a little anxious and it cost us the race sadly.

I can feel that how tough to handle this beast by watch this video…driving in the rain is hard enough, now you add two more turbos to the engine… way to go!

That was high drama. Sorry to see that turn take the car. I saw how much he loved going deep into that turn on the pass. Thanks for the vid. The cars are insane.

Too bad. The violet and the yellow Porsche were attacking/defending very determined in spite of their cars being so much slower on the straights. I feel bad for you and the driver. I understand how frustrating it can be to be stuck behind someone slower that is blocking. I'm off to take a look at your other videos ;-) Thank you for sharing. Awesome sound btw. :-)

You know you're in a serious car when the gear lever leaps upwards when the turbos spool up! Looks like the driver was doing a great job, right up to the point where he wasn't, and committed the "Eau Rouge Mistake". :P

There are many if you look. And while you may disagree..... Porsche themselves agree and have supplied us with documentation that the 934.5 was raced as a TT. They put our car in the museum at Spa, as a 934.5. Yes the TT has been surrounded by controversy, and we had to deal with it in historic series. But at the end of the day, Porsche stepped in and classified it as a 934.5, not a 935. And there word is final on the matter.

@verdeboyo Thanks, it was our co driver in this video, the car is a animal. It had rained just prior to the race, but we expected it to dry (it did after 7 laps) and opted for slicks which proved to be a handful. Our driver got impatient though, he should have waited for the track to dry and take the easy win, live and learn eh. For this race we were running around 650bhp, no need to max out the engine.

Actually they did. They were raced as a twin turbo, and they were raced under the classification of 934.5 in this configuration. While it came from the factory as a single turbo, it was raced as a twin turbo, running a twin turbo does not take away from it from being a 934.5. I'm not positive on the chassis number, will have to check with our head mechanic........ former factory engine builder for the 917 etc ;)

A shame for the crash.. Eau Rouge it's a bitch. You where pushing hard on wet. Any way, amazing how you handle the turbo lag + the slicks on wet, nice race.
@liquidsk8s
@liquidsk8s 12 жыл бұрын
No it is, they ran the 934.5 as a twin turbo in the US after being a single scroll in Europe ;). For this race we had the boost pretty low and it was around 650hp. The power wasn't the issue, our co-driver got antsy and should have waited for the track to dry. 3 laps later everyone pit for slicks, if he had just driven as planned, we would have run away with the race since we didn't need to pit. Silly mistake, but you're right, that's racing.
@liquidsk8s

Also of note. The reason the FIA had a problem with Greggs 934.5 was not because of the TT, but because of the extensive body work and other parts he took from a 935. Had he of kept the body like a normal 934.5, he wouldn't have had any issues.

Great Racing on one of the true circuits in the world. It seems when you finally got by him on the down hill, you carried more speed into that turn then you had all race, which is not uncommon. The car got lite on ya. good stuff.

Wow, very nice car. It reeled in the competition on the straights very handily. I'm guessing you had slicks mounted? Incredibly foolish to get out the car after the spin, though. You can see the rest of the field just coming over the crest, hopefully none of them went for a ride.

With a twin turbo motor its not quite a 934.5 anymore now is it ? :) What chassis number is this car ? Not sure you have 650hp there but in the wet running against RSR's I would have probably dialed it down. Sorry about the shunt.. in happens, then it happens again..racing.

Actually they did not. I own and race one of the first 31 934's built in 1976 as well as one of the ten 934.5 built in 1977. They were all single turbo from the factory. Many were converted by teams to twin turbo after and many were converted to full 935 spec as well. Do you know the chassis number of this car?

Please show me the result of a race where a 934.5 with a twin turbo motor was classified as a 934.5 in IMSA and classified in the GTO class. Peter Gregg won the 1977 Trans Am with a "934.5" but when his car was contested for upgrades it was considered a 935 and the title was taken from him and given to Ludwig Heimrath. Both my cars have been upgraded to TT and are considered 935's though they started life as 934's. I respectfully disagree. That being said it is a wonderful car regardless.

Also, Gregg's season wasn't nullified. It was only ONE race, at Mosport where the FIA had jurisdiction and it became a ridiculous politics game. IMSA/SCCA/Porsche consider Gregg to have won the season. And being that it was only one race he was DQ'ed from, all the other IMSA races were run and classified as a 934.5 without being DQ'ed.

For one thing, it wasn’t me driving. And the other factor you’re unaware of, we started on slicks in the rain with the sky clearing we were going to stay out when it dried vs pitting like the rest. Had our driver not gotten too anxious the plan would have worked as the track dried and the rest pit for slicks. Would have been a easy win. The reason we weren’t as fast on the opening laps is simple. Slicks in the rain on ours while everyone else ran wet tires and had grip.

Porsche 934.5 with a five speed gear box? 934.5 had four speed gear box and only 590hp with a single turbo. Maybe this is a replica, not an original 934.5? Also, when you loose a car, it's normal to try and catch it by steering into the spin, but as you rotate backwards, start neutralizing the steering wheel. If you had done this you could have steered left and held it off the wall. Instead you kept the wheel hard right the entire way, steering backwards into the wall.
@liquidsk8s
@liquidsk8s Жыл бұрын
I wasn’t the driver, it was our co driver. Yeah he messed up in multiple ways. Some of the old pros simply lack the situational awareness/feel for the higher power/grip brought with modern upgrades. 934.5 also came with 5 speed. The car was confirmed authentic by Porsche and showcased. It’s original but with more power thanks to modern improvements in turbos/engine management.

The industry term for this type of driving is turkey jerky as in hands flying all around like a real imbecile. The way you ride "candy cane lane" as it is commonly referred to in the industry is also an unprofessional move. I've been coaching racing for 50 years and the way you hit the corners so hard is commonly referred to "hard dip, back out sip". I'm unimpressed
