Awesome video and a huge help - thanks so much for posting. Had some trouble on the rear though; this video doesn't show the 3.6 mm washers/spacers that sit between the upright/knuckle and the caliper that can be hard to install.The key for me was using the studs to get the rotors fully flush to the hub. I got 5 M14x1.5 nuts and torqued them onto the studs, pushing the rotor into its correct final position. This allowed me to put the caliper on and mount the spacers without too much trouble. It's still awkward because the hard brake line fights you a bit and getting the spacer between the caliper and the upright/knuckle is basically blind on the lower bolt, but the nuts help a ton. Note that the normal wheel nuts don't have enough thread to push on the rotor before they bottom out. If you had a lot of washers it could work, but the nuts were cheap and worked perfectly - just make sure you have a box end wrench or really deep socket to tighten them on all the way. Hope this helps the next person in the same boat.

Informative. However one observation- the small wedge bolts are use to align the disks. Using the wheel nuts to clamp the disc before the small bolts is wrong in my opinion- however, I do not understand German so the intent may be lost to me. Another observation- so very glad I live in a dry climate- no rust anywhere on my S2.

I have a S2 convertible from 89. I was wondering if you have to replace the dampening pads everytime?

If you follow the instructions of Porsche, you'll have to replace the damping pads every time you replace the brake pads. I do it this way, but I am sure that a lot of shops aren't doing it, because the new pads come without the damping pads included.

Thanks again for another great video. Should the thicker side of both plastic parts of brake wear indicator go towards the disc? Also, the spring retaining clip that holds the pads tightly into position does not move very freely in the caliper. Any suggestions to loosen it up?

Hi Ali, congratulations for your S2. In order to bring it on the road, it would the best would, if you join one of the Porsche forums like Rennlist in US or PFF in Germany. Where are always people (including me) around to assist you.

Allererste Sahne Video!

@irina25661
@irina25661 11 жыл бұрын

at 6:00 the hub is coated with "high temperature ceramic grease". how important is the ceramic component - would a non-ceramic high-temp grease be OK, for example with lithium, or copper?
@irina25661
@irina25661 11 жыл бұрын
Copper grease should not be used on Aluminum components. Lithium grease doesn't resist the possible temperature on a brake. Even when it is called high temperature Li-grease, the maximum temperature is around 200 °C. Thus the ceramic high temperature grease is the right one for this job.

If you're gonna replace both the rotor and the pads, can you leave the pads on while you remove the calipers?
@irina25661
@irina25661 10 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes this is possible, you just press the cylinder in the calipers a little back and you can remove the calipers,
@parptarf
@parptarf 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I can install the pads with the calipers off too then right? I'm gonna do this on my '92 968 but I would believe the process is similar if not the same.

at 7:44 the sharp pad edges are filed down - what is the problem with sharp pads?
@irina25661
@irina25661 11 жыл бұрын
If you mount the brakes with sharp edges, it is recommented to brake in the first 500 km only softly. To cut the edges with a file comes from racing, they can't wait 500 km before braking strongly.
