I went to a rallycross even and they have some electric heats. The only sound you could hear was the gravel spraying, the crowd was not into it either. When the gas cars came out people cheered as soon as they heard them. It's crazy how much of an impact sound has on racing.

I don't think there was a switch, I believe the V8 simply turned on to help, can still hear the electric motors going while he engine was going as well. Would make sense for the electric to continue to work since electric can accelerate so much faster then any gas.

no. the electric motors are mainly used for acceleration out of the pit lane when stopped. the sound you're hearing is the straight-cut gears and the turbos. "since electric can accelerate so much faster then any gas." completely false. electric engines lose a shit ton of power at around 60mph. this is why teslas are slow despite the fast 0-60.
