Thank you very much for the excellent explanation. If I am replacing a central radiator (and during the replacement a little fluid comes out) can I add fluid directly to the filler tank without using a vacuum? Do I need to release the pressure valve when adding any spilled fluid?

You can try to bleed and top it up. However, you will likely lose a lot of coolant when replacing it.
